If all that money would be given to charities, I'd send some to each of the following:
Breast cancer research
Muscular Dystrophy Association
Rainbow Ranch
Lion's Club International
and the Essex Junction Lion's Club.

Find a small local charity, one that would really benefit from £10K. To many of the big charities, £10K wouldn't make a massive impact on anyones life.
I think I would give it to a local homeless charity, or to a charity that helps parents who have sick children.

I personally feel that most of the world's problems including environmental issues stem from lack of knowledge. Without a proper education people are too often locked into rigid ways of thinking that lead to conflicts and brutality. I would therefore set up a scholarship foundation so that kids in poor countries can go to school. It's amazing how many children can't go to school for want of as little as $100 a year. Of course I'll need to hire a couple of sharp investment specialists to assure the money keeps growing.

I would donate all the prize money to the Prince and Princess of Wales hospice in Glasgow, Scotland. They enable those with terminal illnesses (and their families) to spend their last precious days, months or years together with the support necessary to ensure the best possible quality time.

building schools in Africa, not the areas that Oprah talks about, but find areas that are being ignored, and i know there are many out there. if i had to choose a American organization i would donate it to myself because i am working on a program that helps people with learning to save money on shopping for food, clothes, and other necessary items that many new couple and struggling families have difficulty doing. i want to branch out and gather it for disaster relief that will reduce thrift stores from destroying items that can help needy families.

I'd give it to my local community foundation - http://www.communityfoundation.org.uk/ - because I'd know they'd ask me what sort of charities I wanted to help, then share it among many small local charities who struggle for funding and who I might not have known about otherwise.

Half to RNLI, anyone who lays their life on the line for others gets my respect.
Half to National Autistic Society. If you've ever spent time with autistic people, you'll know why.
