I've never tried to completely give up chocolate (or any other sweet food, for that matter), but in the past I've gone for long periods of time without eating much sugary food. One winter when I was in college, I got sick and therefore tried to stay away from dessert until I got better. I got so used to not eating dessert that after a while I didn't even want it much anymore. I think the key to avoid eating too much chocolate or other sugary stuff is to fill yourself up with nutritious food first, like pasta, rice, bread, fruits, and vegetables. If you're too full to eat dessert, you won't be as likely to eat too much of it.

I stopped eating chocolate about 4 years ago. I still crave it occasionally but not too bad. I had an individual celebrations chocolate over Christmas and was so disappointed that it didn't taste as good as I remembered it I haven't wanted chocolate since.

Good luck with it but if you really don't want to give up chocolate then don't beat yourself up if you can't do it.

I'm not sure when you'll lose the cravings, but I didn't eat any form of chocolate at all for a little over a month and when I started eating it again I got diarrhea every time I ate it . . . so I guess you should wait like a month or so and then if you MUST eat it, you will and you'll have diarrhea so you'll never want to eat it again.

Keep at it, after a while you just won't crave it at all (I did it last year...never believed that I wouldn't crave it!) But now I have slipped back into my bad old chocolate days. Give it a few more weeks and you'll be 'cured' lol

I give up chocolate every year for Lent. I find I crave it more when I say I am giving it up. I also give up sweets, cakes & bicuits.

I'd love something sweet at the moment, but am being good.

It helps is you've cut back on other high sugar food also. Really once you cut back on sugar your body should adjust withing a week, hard to do, but you can do it!
