Upgrading means = you have an existing (usually older) version of MS Office (e.g. MS Office 2000 or MS Office 2003) and you upgrade it to a newer version (for instance MS Office 2007) using the UPGRADE Software CD for MS Office 2007.

Note:
You can buy an Upgrade CD for MS Office 2007 - but it requires that you have an older version installed. An Upgrade CD is usually marked "Upgrade" on the face or cover.

You can also buy a Full Version of MS Office 2007. This does not require an older version installed.

Installing means = you install a software. In your case * installing MS Office 2007 - that is if you have the MS Office 2007 Software.

Important Steps/Points:

1.) The product key usually comes with the package.

2.) You need this key to activate your MS Office trial version.

3.) If you cannot find this key, then you cannot use the trial version that's been pre-installed on your new laptop. Otherwise (if you find the product key) proceed to step #9 below.

4.) If you cannot use this trial version (courtesy of the lost product key), then this MS Office trial version is FUTILE, NO GOOD.

5.) If the MS Office trial is NO GOOD, then uninstall it. Go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs. Uninstall the MS Office 2007. If you do not know how to uninstall, please press F1 (help). If, after pressing F1 you still need help, then send me an IM at jules.castillo - yahoo ID - I can help you step-by-step.

6.) If you have an old version of MS Office (for example MS Office 2003) then you need to install this. Usually, this version is good enough. If this version is good enough for you and you do not want to upgrade - proceed to step #9, otherwise - if you want to upgrade, then buy the MS Office 2007 Upgrade CD.

7.) Note: Upgrade CD's (those that are marked Upgrade) are cheaper than Full Version. Full versions do not require old versions to be present in your PC.

8.) If you do not have an older version, then buy the Full Version of MS Office 2007... then install it.

9.) All MS products require a "Product Key" to activate the Software. Enter the product key (usually found on the CD case).

Hope this helps, cheers!

you have a trial version, technically a full featured version, you can "UPGRADE" that to office 2007 just by entering the key from the disk box.

Full install you would need to uninstall office 2007 trial and then install office 2007...better to upgrade in your situation.

Well if you are upgrading the software that means that you already have an older version of it on your computer now. If you are installing it, that means you have never had it before. Usually if its a free trial when you register the software they email the product key to you.

I would say though, that I don't think you qualify for the "upgrade" version pricing wise.

You would have to pay full price, and if you do find the license key for a full version of Office you simply have to enter the key under Help > Registration or something similar.
