This Gary K guy always cracks me up with his "Jap Junk" remarks, that show he either doesn't read any automotive publications, or is still living in the 1960's.
The only time you have a problem with Toyotas, or just about any other brand, is when they are just driven into the ground and TOTALLY neglected
There ARE exceptions, but you asked about Toyotas.

the only real common problem i've had/seen was a timing chain on older models (pre 2000)
i really think they're quite dependable, as the old toyota i had has 221k miles on it and it still runs basically brand new (very little work done to it, just kept up on general maintainance).
A good buy in my book! (prolly gonna be the only brand car i own, less i get the money to restore one of my favorite classics)

My famous web page for getting to know used automobiles would not exhibit any hassle-loose weaknesses. One contributor (the "opposite lottery" one) had a number of of hassle early on, however the others have been favorable to enthusiastic. I continuously verify this web page for hassle-loose court docket situations on a particular make, kind, and 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. Very undesirable automobiles have 50% undesirable comments, very stable ones have ninety% effective comments. no longer something to be afraid of on the 1985 camry.

None, they are the most reliable cars on the planet. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise...any automaker in the world would die to have Toyota's reputation for quality.
