I've been attending the same church for over a year now, and i've yet to join. I love the church, the members, and it is a place where I have had a tremendous growth, spiritually. During my time at this church, there have been three seperate instances where people who know nothing about me and don't know me, have told me that I should join the choir. The first time was during a service where we were singing along with the choir, and after church, the woman sitting next to me told me that she was in one of the choirs, she told me when they were having choir rehearsal, and she told me that I have a good voice and should join. The next time, another lady (entirely different) sitting beside me during service told me that she'd noticed my voice, and she also told me that I should join the choir. Then, the last time was this past Sunday, when I went to talk to one of my friends who is actually in the choir, and one of the choir members sitting beside her, told me that she could tell

from my voice that I’m an alto. She then takes me and introduces me to the choir DIRECTOR and he too said that he could tell, and told me when choir rehearsal was, and asked me if I’d be there. When I was at my home church (I’m away at school right now), I was very active in the church, and yes, I was indeed in two choirs. I’m definitely not used to not being active in church. I’ve told my mother about these three separate incidences, and she told me that it sounds like God is calling me to do a job, and I’m trying to ignore it. What do you think? I really would like to join and be a part of all this, but this church is HUGE, and I’m just nervous about making that big step in front of all those people. I know it seems silly, but I guess that’s what it all comes down to…..

Are you having trouble shaking the idea? Does it seem like it's always popping into your mind.. Give in God is making Himself clear what He want you to do for Him right now.. I am a Grandfather. My babies can't even hold a tune. Still there is nothing sweeter than listening to them sing for me.. I understand that you have some vocal skills. The Lord our God gave you that skill and now wants to hear you use your gift. You shouldn't have to join the church to sing. You can keep your membership in your home church. They will understand. Just share with everyone your gift from God.... Jim

If you're a member of another church and are intending to be active in that church when you finish school, it probably would not be wise to join another one. That may not make a difference if you want to sing in the choir though. Ask the director if there is a problem with you singing without being a member. If you have to be a member than you'll have to decide if you want to be involved or not.
As for standing in front of all those people, I went through a horrific ordeal about 7 years ago. It made me more introverted than I am normally but God started nudging me and I took the step of joining the choir. Our church isn't HUGE but it's very large. At first I was very nervous but discovered that being in the middle of a group of people who were worshiping increased my awareness of God. It became less about my fear and more about Him. Perhaps you'll find the same thing.

Why not. It will help you get to know the people of the church. Let the choir director know that you are not comfortable doing solos, at least for now. Maybe there is a reason God wants you in the choir.

Oh my goodness, I'm EXACTLY like you. I live in Malaysia so naturally I'm Malaysian. I'm Christian and I joined a Pentecostal church called Agape Gospel Assembly. When I was there, people asked me to join the choir ministry. I was of course a little nervous like you. To think of all the people who were gonna watch you sing is quite scary. So, I told them to give me time. Then one night, I was reading the Bible and I came across a verse that Jesus had said "May your will be done, not mine".
Then it occurred to me that God was calling me to join the choir ministry. So my cousin and I joined and it's been about 6 months since I joined the choir. I'm a Bass, by the way.
Praise GOd!

It sounds like you know what to do, but are afraid to do it.
Remember that Satan is the source of all fear. Just garner up all your courage and take the step you know you need to take. You can do it!
Is there a REASON why you haven't joined this church yet? Is it because you don't want to not be a member of your church back home? Just remember that you can always change it back when you're through with school.

Col. 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Go for it with an attitude of wanting to serve the Lord, not to show off your voice...
Eph. 2:10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
If God has given you a good voice, He'll want you to use it.
2Tim. 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of TIMIDITY, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
Ask God, if He wants you to join the choir and if you hear Him nudging you, go for it!
2. Tim. 1:6 ... I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you...

confident I actual have watched some come to the Lord. it rather is basically a spectacular feeling to be latest to it. yet, i think of that if I had study scripture for 2 hours it might stress all of us to assert something just to end it. No disrespect to you Primo. only i don't have faith pushing/forcing somebody is very the respond. i've got faith that planting the seed and watering and then allowing it to develop. allowing God to touch the guy. putting the example of authentic Christianity and having others want what we've is extra how I see bringing somebody to the Lord. the guy desires to be keen to obtain the Lord. ann

what would be in your best interest? it sounds like you're just afraid to come out of your shell, which may suggest that you should. If you can sing, and they are telling you that you can, than you have nothing to fear. don't ever look back in regret wishing you had done something; always try new things. Get out there and LIVE, baby! You can do it!!

God could speak to you like that, no doubt. But that's not necessarily the case. Pray about it and see which direction he takes you.
