i have 2 indoor cats, they are naturally curious bout being outside they look out the window etc what i think is cruel is ppl leaving there cats out overnight its just accidents waiting to happen. personally id rather have healthy indoor cats, i think letting a cat out unsupervised is dangerous. u are far from cruel u sound like a very responsible owner 2 me.

It all depends on how they are brought up... If they started out indoor cats then they aren't missing anything not being outside.. If you let them out, I feel you would end up with 2 missing cats or 2 dead because of the highway. Also if they have been inside their whole life, they will probably be to skittish or nervous, and run back to the door. That's if they come out at all... And if they are declawed, I would recommend keeping them indoors.

If they are happy with being indoor cats, stick with that, they wont know the difference with being one the ground as opposed to thre 2nd floor.
I wouldn't risk it if there's a main road.
When I got my cat he was a stray which turned up at work and unfortunately he got the wander bug. If i'd have got him a tiny kit, he would be an indoor cat.
If necc you can give them a diet specifically designed for indoor cats.
Iam sure you cats are happy or else they would have tried to escape

I've had my cat indoors for his whole life, 5 years. I too have a major road infront of my house, I never let him out unless he's on a leash. If you want, get a harness at like petsmart and tie them up outside for a little while! My cat does love to eat grass, and he knows when the harness goes on, he's goin somewhere!

Yes and no. Since you have a backyard get them used to the back door keeping away from the front door. Once they have settled in and used to their new surroundings. they will venture out when they feel ready. For starters take them outside, carrying them, to show them their territory and all should be fine. It worked for mine. A little difficult as he was an outdoor cat where move from. He soon got adjusted. Just do not force them. After all everything is totally new to them. They probably, more than likely, will have to fight for their territory.
Good luck.

I would strongly advise you to keep them inside. We had two cats that were outside cats when we moved we felt that we could not keep them in as it would be cruel. They both got hit by cars and killed four weeks apart I could never go through that again to make matters worse was that one of them had only given birth to four kittens a week before. We had to hand rear the kitties.

It is defiantley a case of what they dont know they wont miss. Keep things as they are. If you always let them sit in an open window, do it. It isnt cruel. I live in a condo on the ground floor. Both of my cats are inside. They enjoy sitting in the windows but dont wants to go out. You are doing a fine job raising your babies. Keep it up.
Also, it is healthier for them to stay inside for diferent reasons. They wont get feline aids from other cats affected and wont get hit by vehicles in traffic.

If you let them out, they will get hit by a car and probably be serious hurt or killed.... that main road is too dangerous for them to go out. I personally would never let my cat out, the life expectancy of a cat that lives outside is like 1yr... a cat that lives indoors is like 12yrs+

If they have always been kept in then they will not know how to deal with going outside and you say there is a busy road at the front - they have no experience with roads so I think it would be a very bad idea to let them outside. Keep them in and keep them safe.

would be cruel if they can get out of the yard but if it's enclosed with no way out (remember they're good at climbing) than you can leave the door open sometimes and let them explore the yard, if you do it just before their usual feeding times then they're not likely to want to go far anyway. if they're neutered then their territory will be really small and they'll be less likely to want to explore very far.
don't think it's cruel if you just keep them in though x
