Porosity means how much pores (voids/gaps) a material contain.
Suppose you take a 1 cm^3 steel foam and it weighs 3.9 grms. A solid steel of same dimension will weigh around 7.8 grms. So the amount of pores in the steel foam is 50%.

Porosity is down to how easily a fluid can absorb/pass through a material.

it is usually the number of holes in a material--swiss cheese, a weld, etc.
