I've been taking escitalopram (essentially the same thing) for some months now. I didn't really notice any significant effects after only one month; in fact I felt confused and tired for most of that period. It takes time to get into your system and can leave you feeling a bit 'numb'.
However the positive effects soon became noticeable and I am now scaling back the dose. I also benefited from having some counselling which works well in combination with anti-depressants.
Good luck man!

Hiya i took citalopram 18 months ago for my panic attacks and to start with the tablets intensifyed the attacks and i intially felt worse but the doctor did say it takes between 4-8wks depending on the patient to have its true effect.sure enough after about 6wks things really started to get better and the surreal feelings i was getting stopped along with the panic attacks and anxiety.Ive suffered with slight depressiona nd attacks for bout 7yrs on and off and ave been prescribed various med and i would definatly say citalapram were the best for me,give it a bit longer and im sure you will start to feel a benefit. If after some time you still feel no better go straight back to your doctor and tell him/her it maybe that citalapram isnt for you.I also had counselling whilst taking my med and that really really helped to the point where i am now off med. Also it is important with this kind of medication that you dont just stop takking them alltogether you must come off them slowly as the initial problem will come back and make you poorly.Even well you feel loads better dont just stop taking them ok,goodluck i wish you all the best

You probably mean "citalopram" aka Celexa, the antidepressant. I took them and they worked REALLY well for me, they did exactly what they were supposed to, and I felt better pretty much the first day I started taking a full dose.
Antidepressants work differently for different people though, so if you don't think they're working for you, you should probably either go off them or switch to something completely different like Wellbutrin (which generally people find works better than SSRIs). A month is long enough to know if they're helping you or not!

Give your meds another week as they can take time to get into your system. Your probably feeling worse if the truth be known but try and persevere, However, if you see no improvement after another week I should speak to you GP and see what he/she has to say. Please do not just stop taking them as then you will know all about it and you will become very poorly.
When you do come off of them you need to do it under strict supervision and then very gradually having your dose tapered weekly until you are weened off of them completely.
What ever you do never let anyone prescribe venlafaxine for you.......promise me never ever to. It is a monstrous drug and ought to be banned

Citalopram is a perfectly reasonable SSRI antidepressant/anxiolytic. It certainly takes about 3-4 weeks to cut in. Not all anxiety/depression responds to medication at all!
If your GP is even average he should have asked you to make a review appointment at about the 4 week mark. If he didn't make one now for further discussion.

You don't say how much you are taking, (dosage), I take them, I began with 10mg, after a month, it was increased to 20mg, and so on, the are anti depressive, plus they help with panic attacks. All I can say is that I get on well with them. it does take a while, I felt strange at times, but settled down after about three months,
Talk to your doctor if worried.

ive been on em for about 6 months now, just starting to come off them. as someone else said they have different effects on different people. I didnt really notice much difference either til i increased the dose (except a loss of libido).
i'd say if theyre having no effect either up the dose or try another route. good luck

If the med was working you would be able to tell as you would feel better. Give it another week or two and if you still don't notice results then call your doc and update him on this so the doc can decide what to do for you.

i've been on anti-depressants for years and i've found citalapram to be one of the best. Do not come off them on your own as they are awful to get off. If they don't suit you ask your dr for something different. They now think i may not have depression but bpd (15 years later) so maybe it is not anti-depressants you need.
