Which is more important as far as Christians are concerned, believing in the divinity of Jesus or following his teachings?
Just curious.

Oh, I believe in his dignity, it's the divinity I question. (which, we all know has been a debate for a very long time.)

the real Illuminati....
Sorry, as far as I remember he said he was the son of God, not God...
And to clear up one of my own beliefs about J.C. (I know I've said it before, but still.) I believe that when he said he was the son of God, he meant it in the sense of "and so are you and so are you, and so are you." (We're all entitled to our own opinions...) (as my brother always adds... even if they're wrong.)

Well, no, if he's not Divine, it's just the teachings of Christ, isn't it? Does that make it any less useful or enlightening, or beneficial to humanity? No. Why's it so hard to have a messiah who's not God, but merely related to God, or knowledgeable about God? *shrug*

Alrighty, i've gotten the input I wanted, and as usual (with a few exceptions) I refuse to pick best answers for my questions here in R&S, because I don't believe there is a such thing as a best answer when it comes to Divinity, there may be a best answer for -you-, but does that make it the best answer for everyone?
So here you go, feel free to vote it out. I want to thank everyone for their input and opinions, and I hope, as always, that maybe this question made you have to use your brain on the subject of Divinity. Thank you and have a great day. :)

There can be no either/or. Without His divinity, His teachings are not the Word of God. They might be good practical advice, but like all human advice, debatable and subject to change.

I think believing his divinity is more important, because christianity is based on you know, that Jesus being son of God, and only through Jesus can be get through to God. Yes, his teachings are very important. But if someone doesn't believe the divinity, then it's kinda of pointless to be a christian.

I've known a lot of Christians who think that it's more important to believe than to follow and let me tell you that the ones who think it's more important to believe seem to be so busy being judgemental of others who aren't Christian that they don't even notice how unChristian they are being. Christ wants us to follow his teachings. The believing will follow because as you see how the teachings work to help improve the quality of your life, which allows you to reach out and help others, you will become a true believer, not just because the book tells you to believe, but because you've experienced it first hand.

You can't have one without the other. If you follow his teachings then you must believe in his divinity as he taught that he was God. If you believe in his divinity then you would be a complete idiot to not follow the teachings of God.
John 17 is Jesus' prayer to the Father before his arrest in vs. 22 this is what it says:
I have given them(Christians) the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one.

I don't think there is an answer that would apply to all Christians...I suppose there is a theological one, but I would say that I think it's more important to follow His teachings than believe. But...if you truly believe in Jesus, you would definitely follow His teachings. So, there really isn't one without the other IF you find Jesus first.

I cannont speak for all Christians, but for me personally, following his teachings. That is the whole purpose for religion in my mind, to teach us to be good people. That is why I do not mind what religion others are, or try to convert people that already believe in something. Only those who don't believe in anything need to be helped. As long as you believe in some higher power that leads you to be a better person, you are okay in my book.

You can not follow his teachings without believing in him.
For with the heart man believeth and the mouth confession is made.
And if you love Jesus you will keep his commandments

He taught what He was and that was in His life. To Follow His teachings is to follow Him, The Word that became flesh.
