It depends on how they are raise (and their birth personality). I have 5. 2 are friendly, 2 are very shy (they run away but don't bite and one in the middle (becoming more friendly). My neighbor has a couple and he is older and has always told me he wanted them to be snappy at a strangers and guess what? The older one is and the puppy is learning it. For these dogs it is a learned behavior, how do I know? Because they were my puppies I raise to 12 weeks and they were never like that here.
I have seen more chis be friendly or shy than snappy. People are beginning to realize that they don't have to have a nasty little chi if they raise it properly. If you don't take the role of Alpha with a chi, it will. And you will be sorry that you let the little tyrannt have conrol LOL. Every one who meets my chihuahuas tell me they are impressed that they aren't at all like the stereotype.

hi i have 5 chihuahuas and my mum has 5, on the whole chihuahuas are lovely small dogs to have. They are very kind and loving to there owners. Regarding snappy behaviour i think that depends how much time you want to socialise your dog, important for a chi to meet lots of different people when they are young. They are very protecting against strangers, but so are most other dogs. Hope this helps and other questions please feel free to email me via 360, i also have photos on there with my chihuahuas, great dogs, make a loving pet! My children adore them all.
Good luck

They can be. A problem I have observed, is that people are reluctant to discipline their chihuahuas, because they are so tiny! If you don't teach them how to behave, they won't behave. At one obedience class I took with my greyhound, there were a grandma and granddaughter with a chihuahua. Every time the granddaughter tried to follow the dog trainer's instructions, the grandma would say, "O no, don't do that, you'll hurt him!" This doggie openly threatened me, which didn't bother me because I was much bigger than he was. Imagine anybody treating a bigger dog like this!
But if you raise a chihuahua properly, it will be a very nice pet.

They usually, but not always, bond with one person and are quite protective of them, despite their small size. They tend to have a 'big dog' personality in their tiny packaging and some have earned the reputation of being yappy and snappy with strangers, but that's not always the case. Chihuahuas are quite intelligent and loyal and early socialization and proper training can mold them into wonderful family dogs.

Chihuahuas are a one-person kind of dog. They pick one person to devote their life to and tolerate other people. Some of them will be snappy to children and people they don't know.

As a breed, chihuahuas tend to bond with only one person - they love that person "heart and soul" for the rest of their life, but they can be grumpy/snappy with anyone else. Training will help keep the dog from biting/snarling, but the dog will probably be much friendlier with their one person than with anyone else.

It all depends on the training the Chihuahua recieves.
I have been bitten by several yippy Chihuahuas. However, I am not saying that all Chihuahuas bite.
If you have small children, a Chihuahua is not the route to go. They don't tend to be all that great with small children.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/HHIpy
By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.
To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

not all are but mine is.
if a chihuahua is socialized right then they will be a ver frendly adn caring dog twards others but if they aren't then they will more then likley be a little bit protective of themselfs and bite and bark at others. mine is a little bit of a ankle bitter and her previous owners didn't socialize her right so not i can't do anything about that becasue it's really hard to change that befavour when they are grown up like mine.
take a look.
