Filing Jointly is always more beneficial, the standard deduction is 10,300.00 compared to 5,150.00
You get an exemption for yourself for 3,300.00 if you file jointly you get to claim 3,300.00 for your spouse, Filing separate can also exclude you from some credits and deductions also

Since there in only the one income, it is almost always better to file as a married couple to get the benefit of all the deductions and exemptions for both yourself and your spouse. the spouse with no income owes no tax, but that spouses deductions and exemptions are zero as well and basically wasted.
Yes, there is a 'marriage' tax, but that really only effects two income households where the combine tax rate is more than the separate rates for filing apart.
The only way to really prove this is to work out both scenarios and compare the results.

No because you would need to claim your spouse as a dependent. It would cost you a lot to file Married Filing Separate.
My boyfriend owns a tax office (for over 10 yrs)

No, you'll generally pay MUCH more tax that way, especially at that income level.
