I do not know if it is on your lip or inside of your mouth but Hydrogen Peroxide will work on either.
If you do not have it, it is at the drug store by the rubbing alcohol. It is very inexpensive, under one dollar a bottle.
And it whitens your teeth.
Swish several times a day if it is inside your mouth. It kills pain very quickly and should heal it in just a day or two.
My Dentist prescribed this 40 years ago and I have used it every since. For me it healed strep and heals any soreness or cankers or after you floss and your teeth hurt. It works great and is cheap. Good Luck.
If it is on your lip, soak a cotton ball and put it on your lip till you feel the pain go away.

Go to the store and get...
Seriously go get L-lisine. It's a supplement- an amino acid. You can find it at Osco or Walgreens, even Walmart. Take a few a day. It will stop it from getting worse. If you had caught it sooner, when that first pinpoint of pain turns up, it would have stopped it from happening. This works for me and everyone I have ever recommended it to.
There is also a cream Abreava. It's rather expensive and comes in a very little tube. It works well too, especially useful if you don't catch it with the L-lisene soon enough. It helps dry it out and really helps with the pain.
For a quick temporary reduction of the red and swelling hold an icecube to it for a while.

Cold sores which they are called sometimes are really HSV-1 which is HERPES. It is a common infection, about 80% of people have it.
It is a VIRUS and there is NO cure for viruses. The only thing you can do is wash your face and keep the cold sore area dry. When it is drying it is healing. Putting some hydrogen peroxide on it a few times a day has helped me before.

A cold sore is a mild form of herpes, it may not be the sexually transmitted one, but it is the simplex 1, and the best way to get rid of it is by using Abreva. You can get it at any drug store.

i get cold sores all the time, the best stuff I've used is called Abreva, hit the sore with it quick enough and it goes away, but use it anytime and it gets better faster.

My wife and I use lysine every other day and it never comes back.
this does really work otherwise you have to use the expensive stuff like abrevia and other temporary remedies.
Lysine only is about 5 dollars a bottle at Target.
Good luck.
