you may want to use an ear thermometer. vaseline is not as good as oil. you could use castor,canola,olive oil but be very careful and know the temp you need. consult the vet. if the animal is feeverish you can use a wet washcloth every few minutes on the belly or ears (don't get water in ears it causes infection) my dog eats flavor ice sticks but some dogs will eat ice cubes. you can give your dog vitamin c in the ester-c form and also echinecea if needed.never ever give tylenol it is toxic

Vaseline and KY Jelly both work well. While I suppose may not be "necessary" (as another claimed) it sure makes things more comfortable for the dog, and easier for you!

You could but not recommended, something water based such as KY jelly is much safer. Use water alone if nothing else available
Or you can use liquid parafin.
Normal temp for a dog is 38.3-38.7 degrees C, roughly

YES DON'T WORRY VASELINE IS FINE OR A BIT OF BUTTER OR COOKING OIL GOOD LUCK AND DON'T WORRY TO MUCH YOUR ***** WILL START BEING VERY RESTLESS WHEN THE PUPS ARE DUE AND START PANTING JUST KEEP A CLOSE EYE SHE WILL KEEP WANTING TO GO OUT THE GARDEN FOR PEE WHEN SHE IS ABOUT TO HAVE FIRST PUP BUT WATCH SHE DON'T HAVE THE PUP IN THE GARDEN DONT LET HER OUT IN THE GARDEN ON HER OWN

Presumably you mean to go up the dog's a**e. Yes you can - it is a recognised safe product. (but will you ever be able to take your own temperature with it again!!)
