I heard that ground up worms make great protien paste and dandelion leaves are great salads...and that nettles can be eaten too. A coffee subtitute from some sort of root...but what is the stuff to aim for on an emergency level...any ideas?

There are alot of things you can try
bugs
worms
crickets
some flowers
certian leaves
moths
fish
wild animals
you might even be lucky and find some fruit!!!
the main thing is to drink alot of water

Well, first I was going to suggest MREs or dog/cat food (honestly, it is a fully ballanced diet), but it sounds like you want stuff that can be eaten that you find...

In which case I need more info. Where would you be surviving? That makes a world of difference. In some places, grubs and lizards might be your best bet, in another you might be able to find a good supply of trout or something. (But remember, if you eat only rabbit, you will starve to death.)

Get a good all purpose survival book (browse the library first before commiting), and talk to the conservation dept. around where you might be doing this (I'm kinda operating under the pretense that you plan on trying out your survival skills at some point, right?) and they can hook you up with info on edible plants in the area, when things are in season, and and most importantly what is poisionous.

Venison, or Rabbit Stew. Carrots, or potatoes included.
BBQ sauce if available.

yuck! i sont think survival is by eating worms..try eating berries instead.
