The lifecycle of the tapeworm Taenia asiatica alternates between people and pigs, an animal that the religious authorities of both Judaism and Islam agree is unclean. It would be of interest to know just when these filthy animals infected people with their parasites. But the answer is not quite what had been expected.

Eric P. Hoberg, of the U.S.D.A.’s Agricultural Research Service in Beltsville, Md., concluded in 2001 that people contracted tapeworms millions of years ago in Africa, long before the emergence of agriculture and domestic animals. It was humans who infected pigs with tapeworms, not the other way around, Dr. Hoberg and colleagues reported. Indeed, people infected pigs not only with Taenia asiatica but also with a second species of tapeworm, Taenia solium, which humans seem to have acquired either by eating each other or by eating dogs.

If pigs had a religion, it is pretty easy to guess which species they would designate as unclean.

Pigs have no souls, humans do.
Beyond the "pigs are dirty" point, it's the fact that God commanded us to not eat it. It is part of the Muslim diet and that should be enough.

One funny thing though: As a Muslim, I share so much with the Jews (I can even eat their kosher meat) yet for some reason we can't get along? If only Israel wasn't such a problem :(

The reason why God told ppl that pigs were not good for eating and un holy is because they were dirty. They lived wild, kindal ike sheep, not in pens. They ate any crap they found and so were full of harmfull stuff, like diseases. So if ppl were to eat pigs in the time of the Bible they could become very sick. But because they had no clue about ill ness and germs, they wouldnt understand if God told them that the pigs had bad organisms inside them that shouldnt be eaten.

So u see, God wasnt just being a pain, saying ppl cant eat this and that fr no reason, He was preventing them from getting sick.

Just like if u use drugs and God says, dont use drugs. He doesnt say it to spoil ur fun, but to protect u from comming to harm beacue of the drugs i.e. dying.

So that is why pigs were unholy to eat in the Bible's time. And because the Jews only follow the old testament very strictly, some still believe this. But most Christians dont. (if ppl farme pigs in the way they dao now, and had the medical info, then maybe God would have said ppl can eat em, who knows)

; D

To answer your question, no they wouldn't. Humans don't eat their own crap...or others' ! Humans were not made to clean the "earth" from crap.

And you speak as though the Jews and the Muslim "hated" pigs. We don't, we respect them if that's what you're worriyng about, we don't treat them bad, we just don't EAT them.

I don't see what the problem is with Christians not understanding that we don't eat pork !

You not a pig, why do you seem so offended by that then?lol

Trichinella spiralis, not Taenia asiatica, is probably the source of anti-pork laws in Abrahamic religions.

If pigs were supposed to designate something on us they'd be smarter and call us "oinkers" because we are worse than swines!!!

Pigs do not create the problems nor the filth of this world...humans do!
