What if you don't want any more and your spouse still does? Or if you still get pregnant on birth control because you are really fertile?

When you are 100% sure that you are not going to ever want any more children. When you know that your family is 100% complete, and your partner agrees with you.

Then you'll be ready.

I know others have answered this to the best of their ability but please read and re-read my answer. After my husband and I had our 2nd child I had a tubal carterization (which means my tubes are burned off) at the age of 28. Well I am now almost 36 and really wish that I would have asked your question myself. I now and have been for about last 6 months been having very strong desires to have another but can't. Medically even though you have your tubes tied or burned like me you can still have a child because you still have a uterus but you can't conceive it naturally through sex. Then you are faced with the ASTRONOMICAL cost of in vitro or as per my situation knowing you will NEVER be able to afford the procedure (s) and it usually takes more than one in vitro attempt before you may have a successful outcome. So it's a matter of for me at least to look at the situation with the right perspective and be thankful and greatful for the child (dren) that you have already been blessed with. If in the event you face possibly regretting your decision to tie your tubes there is always a possibility of adopting a baby but I really think you need to search your soul and use this answer as a resource guide to bring things to your attention that you might not have already considered. I will be thinking about you and if you need more advice just ask me. Take care honey :)

Fisrt off,if your asking yourself when do you know, then you may not be ready or for sure you want to do that.I have 2 children 11yrs apart.I had my daughter first at a young age then my son 11yrs later.I am still with my husband for almost 17yrs now and its a true blessing having children of both sexes. After my son I KNEW I wanted the procedure done. There wasn't a doubt in my mind.I knew for sure I didn't want another 11yrs to go by and get pregnant again. If your having doubts don't do it.You'll know when ur ready. The main question isn't should you get it done, its do you ever want to have anymore kids?Children are a blessing but in todays world it costs alot to raise them and the time we can spend with them is more precious then anything.

Well when you feel that you could not deal with another nine months of getting fat or when you have at least one of each sex because they only make 2 kinds.
My wife and I stopped after 2 even though we had 2 girls we didn't want the kids to start out numbering the parents.

When you have enough kids and no more time or money for them. I have three and though I love babies... I just don't have the time or money to share between all of them and it wouldn't be fair to them if I couldn't. I am 36 and got mine done this past summer. I don't regret it at all.. love my sexual freedom!

talk to your doctor about the mirena iud. it is more effective than sterilization in preventing pregnancy(nothing is 100%, even tying your tubes) and it is reversible

If you feel like you've reached your limit! I would just do bc though because if you change your mind and want more, you can have more.

you need to talk to your dr. it depends on age and how many kids you have.
it was a hard choice to make, but i talked it over with my husband and we just knew that 2 kids was enough.
