Can olive oil be used as a cooking oil? If so, how and would you recommend using this as a subsitute for regular cooking oil?

Sure, but it has a low burning point. So don't use it for deep frying. Also if you're using extra virgin olive oil, so just know that it will impart its flavor into what ever you cook.

Of course! And it generally is wherever olives are grown.

The cooking temperature is a bit lower than that for corn or canola or mixed vegetable oil, however.

One of the best dishes in the world is the Spanish mainstay of rabbit dusted with salted flour then fried in super extra virgin olive oil with fresh chopped garlic.

Yes! Use it just as you would "vegetable" (corn, canola, whatever) oil.

It may have a different smoke point than other oils you may have used, but it's close enough that you need not worry for normal cooking.

Be aware that olive oil has a distinctive taste. While it can be used in cakes and cookies, you'll end up with an odd taste.

Yes, olive oil is an excellent and fairly healthy cooking oil. Use it just as you would any other cooking oil.

Yes, you can. Use it to saute onions, garlic, and other vegetables.

You can use it to put in bread dough
use it to lightly oil a pan when you make pizza or anything ele.

When you buy olive oil, read the label it will usually tell you what that particular type of oil is used for.

Absolutely! Use olive oil just like the stuff in those other bottles.
Be aware that you can get strength of flavors in olive oil by choosing between the grades...Extra Virgin, Virgin. etc...
Watch 30 minute meals on tv, get a cookbook (look for recipes that specify olive oil)...
It's really good and tastes good too.....

What else are you going to do with it - try to make it mate with Popeye?

Yes - you just bung it in the pan like any other cooking oil - but it's much better for you than many other types of oil.

Absolutely, but do not use virgin olive oil as it is considered too good and is usually used in dressings or by it self uncooked poured over food. If you are frying, don't bring the temperature up too high.

Yes, and some people even deep fry with it. The main thing is it smokes at lower temperatures than many other types of oil, so don't use a really high heat.
