i think one of the main differences is in the way the markings are distributed on UK and american bred springers, UK bred can have any pattern of markings varying from 'irish' marked (nearly solid colour with white trim-white blaze, collar and on legs and feet) to nearly all white with patches and/or ticking of colour. the american bred are nearly always solid colour with white trim, with very little ticking on the white. also the american bred seem to be 'dripping' in coat with long straight feathering on ears, chest, front legs and belly. whereas the UK bred seems to look a little more rustic with slightly wavy feathering. also i do think that the american bred has a slightly more exaggerated hind angulation, topline and tailset then the UK bred dog. these two pictures should help to explain a bit better! the first is a UK bred and the second is american bred....

A Springer Spaniel is a Springer Spaniel regardless of which country it lives in just as Boxer is a Boxer.... However, some USA breed standards are different to the UK Kennel Club breed standards so that occasionally a breed will be, for example, larger in one country than in another. In practically every country that has a Kennel Club, they recognise the breed standards of other countries and cannot change them because of reciprocal agreements. So, the Standards of English Breeds will be "recognised" by the American Kennel Club and will not be altered and vice versa. If there are differences in the USA for an English breed it would probably be due to incorrect breeding by a perhaps, novice breeder.

Yes I do. The ones in the UK tend to still look like they can do the job that they were bred to do. The US is notorious for breeding for looks, not for original purposes or sometimes even health and temperament, so they tend to have more coat and look more refined than the UK versions.

English Springers are stocky, strong and taller than their American counterparts. As someone has said before, the English Springer looks like it is designed for it's job.

The Welsh Springer is smaller and its markings slightly lighter.

European bred dogs tend to be shorter and stockier than "American bred" dogs. I travel in Europe a lot for business and see big differences in common breeds such as labs, GSD's and Irish Setters.

I don't think so because I have three and one has American-bred parents and I can barely tell them all apart!

Yes they do, most obvious difference being in presentation & "showiness". They probably don't differ so much in type as do the working & show lines in the UK though.
