aren't they really just saying "I'm right and you are wrong. It will take an act of god to make a dolt like you understand"?

I have always felt that they are saying "I hope you don't stay stupid your whole life."

It really irks me when they say it.

Some might be, but not all. And, it took an act of God for a dolt like me to understand, I think that we're all dolt's who need prayer to help us. But If you don't pray under God's will, well, good luck with that. ;)
When I say that I'll pray for someone, I usually say it because I'm going to because I care about that person and I want them to know God and all the good that comes from him. :)

I hope that helped.

no, when i tell someone that i am praying for them, all im saying is that i want them to get through whatever their going through, and sometimes i just pray for someone because i just want them to have a good day, or to stay strong. i dont mean "I'm right and you are wrong" that has nothing to do with anything.

I think if anyone has an insincere intention then their prayer is invalid. If I offer my good actions for the goal of reducing others suffering but am only doing so to fulfill something I think I have to do then it loses its power. I think the same goes for Christian prayer.

I think it's very condescending to say that to a non-believer. Some say that they mean well, but if they really care and really mean well then they won't SAY "I'll pray for you..." they'll just DO it quietly, without needing to SAY that they're going to do it.

we're asking for help for you in our own way. we believe that prayer to God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit helps, weither the person being prayed for believes the same or not.

Let them waste their breath... I'd rather they went away somewhere and talked to their non-existent spirit in the sky than bother me.

Just like if we said "Yeah, I'll try to develop a cure for that."

That's sure what it sounds like. But i know they mean well in their own bemused way, so i ignore it.
