all dogs molt to a certain degree the only dog that would not molt would be a Chinese crested dog they have no hair on there body and a little crest on there head hence the name i have shihzus and they are clipped all year round and don't molt as far as i can see.the longer the coat the less chance of molting the shorter haired dog like a jack Russel or a golden retriever are much more likely to molt

Poodles are the best known for non-shedding coats and it's true as l have 2 miniatures myself.
The only drawback is that poodle coats are like human hair, they never stop growing and require grooming every day and clipping every 8 weeks.
Poodle crosses (labradoodles, jackapoos etc) are often advertised as having non-shedding coats the same as poodles but this is not always true so beware. l am a dog groomer and have seen many of these so called designer dogs and they do moult and require clipping. People often pay more for one of these crosses than a purebred dog and cannot be sure what they will end up with.
l believe Shihtzu's, Maltese, Yorkshire terriers and Bedlington terriers also do not shed hair but have not owned any of these so cannot say for certain. lf you contact reputable breeders of these dogs they will give you the pro's and con's for each breed.
Good luck with your choice.

I would share my opion and say a Maltese. Maltese generally only weigh up to eight pounds. These dogs do not shed and do not drool. The only thing is you have a 50/50 chance of getting a real sweetheart or a yappy dog. These dogs only have one problem and that would having to brush them maybe daily or unless you trimmed them once a week or every two weeks. Some may mention the Chinese Crested and yes these are great dogs but because of lack of fur they have high mantnence with skin care. Maltese not only are shedless dogs but they were kept only by royalty in older times. Even if you find an eight pound to large there are tea cup Maltese weighing two-five pounds. Maltese are great dogs to own and I know because of my mothers dog. I grew up with this dog named Victoria and I know she is still a great dog. I guess one of the best qualities of a Maltese would be their lifespan. most live to be 18 or 19 but some live 20+ years of age. If you decide on this dog t is important to know your breeder as with any dog. Also try to meet the puppy's mother and posibly father. This will help tell you if you will get a sweetheart or a yappy pup. Finally many of my friends who alergic to dogs have never sneezed while Victoria was in the room. They are truely amazing dogs.
These dogs will never shed not a hair. Unless of course you brush them...becuase then you are pulling the hair out. Yet for the 8 years of owning Victoria she hasn't shed once.

~Hope this Helps~ =)

No, birds molt. Dogs shed. Anyways, poodles don't have fur, they've got hair, so they don't shed, but need grooming. Cairn terriors don't shed either for the same reasons. Also, there are more types of dogs, just look it up online.

I've had a poodle and a shih tsu, but both did shed just a bit. Not nearly as much as most breeds do though. Oddly though I now have 2 Border Collies which are litter-mates. I've been told that one has a genetic defect in that she does not have an undercoat. Her fur is still long and soft, but does not feel as thick and dense as her sister's. And she hardly shed's at all (her sister sheds TONS). It's an interesting "defect", but I don't think anyone's trying to replicate it.

They do. It's called shedding and at certain times of year, many breeds shed heavily, losing much of their undercoat. It's called blowing their coat.

Ah - read again - which ones don't shed. Poodles and shih tsus are two. Also Chinese Crested are often hairless and don't shed.

The designer dogs like goldendoodles and labradoodles often do shed - there is a lot of variability among the puppies and non-shedding coats don't occur in all of them.

My Old English Sheepdogs don't molt, but you do get dead fur sometimes in the brushes after grooming.

My fiances mum and dad got a westie (max) cos their other son got bad snuffly allergies from dogs/cats. Max doesn't moult, mind you the dogs get bad skin allergies (westie probs hence the reason for insurance)
Poodles dont she/moult either.
You can now get hypoallergenic (genetically modified) cats so poss you can get dogs as well
