"Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the only begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, begotten, not made, of one essense with the Father, by whom all things were made, who for us men and for our salvation came down from Heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate and suffered and was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the scriptures and ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father, and He shall come again with glory to judge the quick and the dead, whose kingdom shall have no end." Nicean Creed. First Ecumenical Council

Jesus Christ is God. He is our Savior. He is life itself.

I don't think Jesus existed in the way portrayed in the bible, and certainly the bible is not a history book or an autobiography of Jesus.
The early Rabbinic record of the Jewish faith , a document called "Dialogue with Trypho", written by St Justin Martyr circ 160 AD recorded what is basically an argument that Just Martyr had with a Jewish man called Trypho. In this document, Trypho mentioned a "groundless report" and also clearly and unequivocally stated the early church had "invented" Christ. In the famous Ante-Nicene Library can be seen this passage that reads " "But Krist, if he has indeed been born and exists anywhere is unknown...And you, having accepted a groundless report, invented a Kristo for yourself."
I am sure I could fill several pages with other references that question the historical accuracy of the life of Christ, but the point is, that belief in the concept, the teaching and practise of true Christianity is ultimately good, the fact that it is based on a lie is fundamentally irrelevant.

Jesus Christ was the Messiah that God promised the Israelites in the Old Testament. They didn't believe He was the one, but thanks to the Apostle Paul and others, the Gentiles accepted him as Christ (after he was crucified). By believing that Jesus took our place, that he died so that we could still be righteous in God's eyes even though we are sinners, the Gentiles were saved. This is still the message that is true for us today. Believe in Him, and you'll have everlasting life with God.

Jesus is the first creation by the almighty God, he is the messiah. The only means by which mankind might be saved.

(Colossians 1:15-17) . . .5 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all [other] things and by means of him all [other] things were made to exist,

(Revelation 3:14) 14 “And to the angel of the congregation in La·o·di·ce´a write: These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God,

(Acts 7:55) 55 But he, being full of holy spirit, gazed into heaven and caught sight of God’s glory and of Jesus standing at God’s right hand,

(Revelation 1:1) 1 A revelation by Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place. And he sent forth his angel and presented [it] in signs through him to his slave John,

(Revelation 7:10) 10 And they keep on crying with a loud voice, saying: “Salvation [we owe] to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

Jesus is the perfect example of Love...He is love, and offers freedom from sin, compassion, forgiveness, and so much more. If all humans would aspire to become more like Christ, instead of more like humans they admire, the world would never be the same. Miji

I think Jesus was one of the great ethical philosophers of the ancient world. Had he been Greek or Roman he could have achieved fame as a philosopher. Unfortunately, he was a Jew whose teachings offended his religion's leaders and he was executed.

I think the Christ myth was added on to his teachings well after his death, in part to make up for the apparent failure of his ministry.

The resurrection came first. Paul (the earliest writings of the NT) and Mark (the earliest gospel) speak of appearances without much elaboration. These were elaborated on in later books. The idea of a resurrection, especially a spiritual resurrection was common at the time. Giving Jesus one would not have been an unusual claim.

The "son of god" came second, it is seen in the early letters and on occasion in the early gospels although the gospels still confuse references to son of god, sons of god, and son of man. The son of god claim was made for any number of heroes and leaders of the ancient world. The son of man linked to various verses of the OT.

The birth narratives are the most recent of the ancient NT writings. Neither Paul or Mark mention anything about it. They follow the basic Zeus-Hercules story of a virgin giving birth to god's son.

The trinity was never defined in the NT. The sole mention of it occurs not in the gospels or in Paul's letters but in 1 John 5:7. This is a fairly clear statement that the father, son, and holy ghost are one. Unfortunately, this verse does not appear in any manuscript older than the 15th century. It is a late addition to give the trinity more biblical basis than it would otherwise have.

I got a bit long winded but I hope this helps you with a different perspective.

What they said: Greencreeper; Rockinweazel; Rob; Tribble; Miriam; Emily; Robert; and Randal. But: why don't you just open a New Testament and find out for yourself? You might be glad you did.
