It really depends on what kind of things you like. This vacation may be fun for your son, but he most likely will not remember any of it, so don't go for the museums and stuff like that unless you and your fiance like it. My family loves to camp and hike, so we go camping and hiking in national parks, and visit tourist attractions nearby. New Hampshire was absolutely beautiful last summer, Laporte Pennsylvania is gorgeous (in Worlds End State Park there is a river that flows thru it that you can camp near or picnic near it and play in the water during the day, it is so much fun). But if you and your fiance prefer the beach, children have so much fun with the sand and water and there are always other kids to play with on the beach. Sesame Street theme park in New Jersey is set up just for kids and Busch Gardens in virgnia is geared toward kids and adults. You might see if some friends or another couple want to go with you and you could take turns going on the rides with the kids and then going on rides with the adults while another adult rides with the kids. At Busch Gardens there are also a lot of rides that are "family" oriented. And you can tour old Williamsburg and Jamestown and Johnstown. Good luck and God Bless.

We've had to do a lot of travelling with our 1 and 2 year olds this past year for weddings. I think you'll want to definitely find somewhere to stay that has a kitchen or kitchenette, plus even a second room - like an embassy suites. Becasue when your one year old goes to bed, you'll need to figure out what you're going to do to be quiet/dark. Even if you had a babysitter, youd be in this same boat. So Id spend more on lodging, then look for somewhere with just a pool/beach/park/or animals/zoo. If you're flying - we found the crocs shoes were great for getting on and off thru security too.
