I've been wnting to get a pisces tattoo on my lower back for a while now. My husband doesn't want me to get one, but I do. I tell him that I want to experience something that my dad experienced before he died. He had 2 tattoos and I used to love to look at them. Is that a dumb reason to get one? I feel like it would bring me closer to him.

No its not a dumb idea.. if you like tattoos then get them.. Just remember that they are stuck with you forever so make sure that you are sure about this decision... maybe you can get a tattoo that symbolizes your father.. something that has a deeper meaning then just getting a tattoo for the heck of it.

As ever, the answer to this question is that only you can really decide whether or not you should get a tattoo. But I certainly don't think your reason for wanting to get a tattoo is 'dumb' - you're talking about commemorating an important family relationship, not just some passing desire to look cool.

I can also undertstand your husband's nervousness -some people just don't get tattoos (as I'm sure you'll have gathered from some of the other answers on here!) Maybe it's worth talking to him about what he objects to in the idea of tattoos; if he tells you various negative stereotypes you can point out that your dad had tattoos himself and wasn't any of those things. You could also try experimenting with temporary body art as a way of easing your husband into the idea of you with a permanant tattoo - using henna, for example, which lasts for a couple of weeks.

At the end of the day, though, only you can make this decision. It's right that you should give it a lot of thought; that's the only way to come to a clear understanding of what you want to do.

Best wishes, and enjoy your tattoo experience if you decide to go ahead with it!

I think it's a good idea. A lot of people get tattoos as a memorial for their father. It is extremely common. Also yours brings you closer to your father and it relates to you. As long as it isn't a spur of the moment thing or a name (except for father mother and child names) its a okay idea. If you take all of the precautions to getting a tattoo and fully understand everything I'd say go for it. Also look up what certain placements mean. The small of the back, for most, symbolize tramp or easy. Then again I plan to get one there soon, just to warn you though.

Well if you put it on your lower back, you can't look at it !

True shame your husband doesn't go for it and puts it on his body parts so you could at least see it...:-) sorry, I'm not making fun of you.

I think we should strive to be 'complete' as a person, meaning having our most essential needs met in order to be a potential partner for someone else (lover, husband, friends)
but
I like to deliberately give the person I chose to be my all time number 1 ( husband, partner) the privilege of being highest on my priority list in case of conflict.
All that to tell you: I would not cut my hair of, have plastic surgery or a tattoo ( though I would feel like it) if my partner
would strongly disapprove. the memories of your dad's tattoos
are more precious and will always bring your dad back to you, than having that dramatic symbol engraved on your butt...what would your dad have said about it?

that is def not a dumb reason to get one, anything that represents the love you have for a family member is awesome.

try incorporating something between you and your dad in with your pisces tattoo to make it more special.

I'm assuming your husband loves you so he might not like it or approve but i'm sure he will support your decision.

Good Luck

If you have to ask strangers on an answer forum if you should get a tattoo, then maybe you should not get one. You have to want to get a tattoo for YOURSELF. Don't listen to your husband or let him tell you what you should do. It's your body you can do with it what you like. You can get a tattoo if you want to. Get a tattoo. I have 2 tats and I am planning on getting more. They are addictive! Peace.

I love tattoos and its personal whether or not you want one or not. Even though your husband doesn't approve, is he really going to leave you if you do it?

I would go for it if I were you but make sure the tattoo you plan to get is something you are okay having forever.

No one is going to be able to make this decision for you because a tattoo and getting a tattoo is a very personal thing.....it sounds like it means alot to you...

Tattoos are a great way to remember someone, after all, it's on you forever. It's your body, so it you want to get one, then do it, just make sure you do your research first.
I have a tattoo on my ankle, and I love it, and I am planning on getting another one in the summer.

Dear Tracey,
I'm in a like/wise situation. My b/f of 4+ yrs says he hates tat's but my oldest son wants us (his bro's & sis's & me) to design a family symbol that will symbolize what we've all been thru & overcome together. I believe this is a very nobel cause & at my age (39) I'm NOT worried about what it will look like at the age of 60...nothing on me will look that great! Duh! Gravity!

I would however, suggest you put your tat some where your hubby won't have to stare at, especially during , well y'know.
Common courtesy. Good luck!
