It could be the chapter (Sura) of the Quran named "al Fatiha" Muslims read in funerals and in front of graves, but it consists of 30 words, too long to be tattooed(unless she has a big back).
Also it could be any other piece of Quran and your friend was told the wrong definition for its name(if she can`t read Arabic).
If you have a photo for it,then I can tell you the exact translation

Is she Muslim? If not that is an interesting thing to have inked into her flesh. This is the prayer Muslims also say during their Salats (prayer time) at least 15 times a day. It is a sort of all purpose prayer.
Translation is:
In the name of Allah,
Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah
Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds,
Most Gracious, Most Merciful,
Master of the Day of Judgment.
Thee do we worship and Thine aid do we seek.
Show us the straight way,
The way of those upon whom Thou hast bestowed Thy grace,
those whose portion is not Thy wrath,
And who do not go astray.
As with all prayers there are minor variations in the wording, some more flowery than other, but the general gist of it never changes.

We are allowed to pray for the dead, but I don't have much knowledge on the verses in the Quran that she reference to. It does sound very possible she got it from there. You can go to a good translation site like the one at Google.

You'll find a translation here - for free . . .
"In the Name of God
The Compassionate
The Merciful
Praise be to God, Lord of the Universe,
The Compassionate, the Merciful,
Sovereign of the Day of Judgment!
You alone we worship, and to You alone
we turn for help.
Guide us to the straight path,
The path of those whom You have favored,
Not of those who have incurred Your wrath,
Nor of those who have gone astray."
