He has taken to smoking my Dad's pipe of an evening, and has taken over the best armchair (he is currently reading Middlemarch and so is sat there for the best part of the day). He has also starting wearing my reading glasses which is quite annoying as I need them to study, and after numerous scrapes with the dog next door I have caught him trying to pick the lock on my gun cabinet.
He is the gentleman of the house as he is always opening the door for my mother and taking off his hat when he comes in from work, although my dad is annoyed that he has taken to wearing his best tweed jacket; the cat may think it looks smart but it's much too big. More annoying still is the fact that he is learning Hungarian off of an audiotape and the machine keeps us awake way in to the early hours.
He has now developed a nose for fine brandy and is getting paw marks all over our best crystal, as well as tobacco stains. He is also annoyed over the fact I won't let him borrow the car.
Help?!

His name is Tibbles, by the way, but he now prefers to be called Mr Pitt-Smythe. I don't know where he got the double-barrelled surname from- do you think he has illusions of grandeur?

You need to find him another hobby to keep him busy. Perhaps gardening so he can be out in the fresh air or astronomy (since he seems to be up late and it's quieter than the Hungarian audiotapes!).

Take away the pipe, and give him patches instead - that should help with the withdrawel symptoms.
As for the dog next door, it could be that the dog is picking on your cat and that is why he wanted the gun.
He must be a well bread cat as he seems to like the finer things in life.
Next he will want you to move to a mansion, complete with a paw shaped swimming pool.

Nice imagery. Kudos to your imagination. You made Mr. Smythe come alive and myself personally who owns a cat found the vision apt and yet amusing as I can see my significant feline other doing the same.
If he is persion, alas it is a trait you must endure but if he is not so high in breed might I suggest Catnip... in a crystal bowl on a silver tray ofcoarse...and always Sheeba cat food... he deserves the grandour... and hes feline... no illusions my friends... the egyptions worshipped this mammal

no the cat is doing just fine , he is only doing what he thinks you would like to be doing, but i would ask him not to smoke the pipe so much as it seems the problem could be starting from there, is he smocking grass or hash, you could get him a sisha pipe, this would be more healthy for him than a briers pipe. direct smoke into the lungs eh what, and about the car I would be as well pi$$ed off if my Bentley had no chauffeur,

I would say keep the tobacco locked up nice and tight.... keep the car keys out of reach...I don't think there is much help getting him away from the tweed jacket, though.... those things are nice.... the ones with the leather patches on the elbows? Sweeeeeet!

Awww poor lad.. i think that as he IS the gentleman of the house that u should at least let him borrow ur car once in a while.. as for the smoking... Hmmm he really does need to give that up if he wants to preserve his lifestyle..! Why dont u treat him to use of ur car if he gives up..? Had a load of laffs at this.. thank u for cheering us all up.!

Give him a good stern talking to. He needs to understand that he must ask before borrowing other peoples belongings.

try explaining it as hes to stop smoking rather than give up. giving something up implies its a good thing you are not allowed....worth a try! or start by stopping him drinking then sit him down for a reasoned chat?
