We have a female cat who is waking us up in the night, asking to be fed. We tried feeding her just before we go to bed, and we leave dry food in the bowl. Nothing works.
We asked around and we had an idea to adopt another kitten, in the hope that she will have company, so she won't get bored at night, and therefore won't wake us up. Anyone with experience out there? Is this going to work?

I doubt that she is hungry, she is probably bored. I, like others who have already answered have been in your same predicament. My cat used to walk on me in while I was sleeping and always sit looking out the window making all kinds of cat noises at night basically anything for attention. So i did what you are considering, adopted a kitten. Once he had the playmate, there was no more lonely cat calls out the window. They are very happy and content playing with each other.

P.S. There a slight chance that you might be woken up from the two of them having a wonderful time chasing each other around your house =)

Smiles, your cat has you well trained. One of my cats did the same thing. Pestered the living daylights out of me; pick, pick lightly with the claws, the a bit harder, finally stomping across me to my face........ It worked every time, lol. The only way i could break him of it was by closing the bedroom door. It's easy for me to suggest that, because after I take my hearing aides off, I can't hear the plaintive wailing on the other side, lol Cats are nocturnal animals by nature, so waking up her "litter mates" (you and your mate) is simply her way of saying "hey, it's night, lets party!" Depending on your cat's age and temperament, a kitten might be accepted by her. But may also teach the kitten......" hey new kid, lets go wake the humans and get them to feed us" lol Good luck

I have a cat that did the same and it would bug me till no end. What I did was when I would get home I would play with her until I went to bed. A little after that she began to go to sleep during the night, and wouldn't stay up and keep me up. Basically, just waste her energy so you don't have to deal with your cat at night. ;)

My cat does that too. Is your cat stuck in a space? just let her out. Maybe she does'nt like the food. Many signifigant things she does during the day affect her at night. Like naps, eating, drinking and being around certain smells.
Check with your vet.

I seen your question, but WAIT ! dont feel alone, my cat used to do the same thing. Maybe your cat is in heat, if shes female. cause when my cat was in heat she was always like that, and when they are in heat they are very bored and uncontrolably uncomfortable. My cat used to ber really picky when it came to hard food. she wouldnt touch it ! Well if you have anything to ak about cats just ask me ok ?

Is she fixed? Maybe that is it also a little catnip might help. a kitten might help then they will be racing around the house.
Do you keep your door open so she can come in?? Is there anything new in the house ( is the house new?) .

I had a kitten that used to drive me crazy. The only solution that worked was adopting another one. :)

cats are nocturnal. Maybe you should let her out at night.
Or try waking her if you see her sleeping during the day.
