Just to clarify to some: Jail is not the same as prison.
Having said that, jail is for punishment. You are there to think about what you did and how you are supposed to keep from coming back. Prison, or long term incarceration is for rehabilitation.
As for having something to do: If it takes you going to jail to realize you need to do something worthwhile with your life, then wait the few months, get out and get your life on track.
Why is it always everyone else's fault for people screwing up?

People go to jail for a reason. I know that there are a few people in there that are innocent, but if your doing time why is it that you can go to the yard, watch tv, lift weights, etc.?
If you have committed a crime and you go to a "correctional facility" ( by the way what do they correct?) Nothing.
I feel that if you are in jail and you don't have a trade they should teach you something to do so when you come out you are a better citizen. Don't know how to speak English make them learn. Some of these places do have schools churches ect. the point is while a person is in the system they should have to take courses, attend counseling anything they have to so when they come out they will not repeat their crimes.

Yes there should be more for people to do in jail/prison, however the powers that be don't care to spend the money on the throw away people, in this country ,the incarcerated are called industrail slaves, made to work for pennies on the dollar, as you know the majority of inmates donnot get these work programs

There is currently a reformist movement toward the prison system which would involve more education and rehabilitiation. It's even led by the Republican party, believe it or not.
There should also be less people on prison. Let's stop with locking people up for quality of life crimes and use that money toward education.
