Okay. The first thing I'd like to say to you is not to panic. I know it sounds like opening it up and pushing it down and getting stitches would be really painful, but you could go to an Oral Surgeon and they would be able to give you General Anesthesia (this means, you would be asleep when they are working on you and you wouldn't feel anything). Trust me, I have had 10 teeth extracted (removed) and 3 roots in the same day and I had the General Anesthesia. The Oral Surgeon I had was great and I didn't feel a thing when he was doing the work. As for after the surgery, they usually give you some kind of pain killer. If he/she doesn't offer it and you think you are going to be in a lot of pain, I would ask him/her for something for pain. (Usually, something like Vicodin or Codeine) Just make sure you follow all the directions that your doctor gives you regarding any pain medication and post surgical care, such as rinsing your mouth and what you can eat afterwards. They usually give you gauze in an envelope and instructions on mouth care for the next 72 hours. The doctor usually has a emergency number that you can call if you experience any further problems and they are usually good about calling their patients back promptly. I hope this helps you by putting your mind at ease a little. I wish you luck and a speedy recovery. I will keep you in my prayers.

OK..I have had this exact procedure done on myself when I had braces as a teenager. What was done, is that they opened up my pallet and exposed the tooth. THEN they hooked a bracket to it and hooked a little rubberband around it which was conected to the wire on my top braces. This helped pull it down far enough for them to connect a wire to it, so that it could be wired into place with the rest of the teeth. This was no more painful than the pain you experience from just having the braces. The most painful part of the whole procedure, for me, was when they numbed the roof of my mouth.

Don't worry about the stitches, you won't feel a thing. After it's over, your gums may be a little bit sore, but it won't last for too long. Take Advil or Tylenol if you have pain, unless your dentist gives you something else. I had a piece of gum removed between my two front teeth because it made my teeth separate. It really isn't too bad, don't be afraid, you'll be fine and your teeth will be beautiful once you get the braces off. Take care.

You shouldn't be afraid of getting this done. I haven't had this done, but I had an extraction 2 weeks ago and they couldn't get it out the regular way so they had to cut down in my gums to remove the tooth and stitch it up. After the novocaine, there is some pain but its tolerable. They will probably give you meds. Just think, hopefully after this procedure is done, you will get good results and improve your smile. I wish you the best of luck.
