They believe all of the bad things occurring in the US is because of Gay rights, and liberals. They especially emphasis Gay rights as uber evil causing most of the problems in the US.

They thank God for dead soldiers because they think God is punishing the sin. Dumb huh?

Erika is thinking of the Landover Baptist Church, where only True Christians™ go.

Westboro Baptist Church is a congregation of about 100 people, all of whom are related in some way, led by pastor Fred Phelps. They're notorious for "God Hates Fags" (godhatesfags.com) and picketing military funerals.

The best thing to do with these people is to not pay any attention to them. By giving them media exposure, we're giving these assholes exactly what they want. Apparently free speech can have its downfalls...

Westboro Baptist Church is a U.S. religious group headed by Fred Phelps and based in Topeka, Kansas. It runs the website GodHatesFags.com[1], and GodHatesAmerica.com, and other websites expressing condemnation of homosexuals, Roman Catholics, Muslims, Jews, Sweden, Canada, and other groups. The organization is monitored by the Anti-Defamation League,[2] and classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.[3][4] The group has achieved national notoriety in recent years due to its picketing of funeral processions for soldiers killed in combat, which functions as an extension of the Phelps' anti-United States beliefs.

While its members identify themselves as Baptists, the church is an independent Baptist church not affiliated with any known Baptist conventions or associations. The church describes itself as following Primitive Baptist and Calvinist principles.

The church bases its work around the belief expressed by its best known slogan and the address of its primary website, "God hates fags", and expresses the opinion, based on its Biblical eisegesis, that nearly every tragedy in the world is linked to homosexuality – specifically society's increasing tolerance and acceptance of gay, lesbian, and bisexual people. It maintains that God hates homosexuals above all other kinds of "sinners"[5] and that homosexuality should be criminalized, punishable by the death penalty.[6]

Not only is Westboro opposed by supporters of gay people, but many Christian groups (including those who believe that the practice of homosexuality is a sin) oppose Westboro's theology and example. Southern Baptist Convention president Bobby Welch, for example, has publicly described Westboro Baptist activities as "hate-filled" and stated that the Southern Baptist Convention is not affiliated with Westboro Baptist.

They are control freaks who use religion as a means of justifying their hatred. The founder, Fred Phelps, regularly beat his wife and kids. Some of the children escaped from his cult, and their stories are on this site:

They take the Bible literally and the idea with the soldiers thing is that God is telling us our war is bad and we are doing something wrong by killing our soldiers.

Its a fake church I believe. Ive seen the site, and I believe someone made it up.

EDITED... Woah, its not fake.... They are actually the same "kind" of church I am. We are independant, fundemental, baptists, as they claim to be also. We believe in old fashioned living ect, holy and pure, but we are not hateful, nor do we glory in people going to hell. While I agree people like Matthew Shepard are probably in hell, I wouldnt thank God for it, as he himself doesnt WANT anyone to go there, unfortunaltly some do though...

evil f***ers.

they used to protest at Gage Park and when we were little and saw them, that was the only time we were ever allowed (and encouraged) by my mother to flip them off.

I always felt sad for their kids, they are brainwashed at such an early age and made to hold those awful signs.

i can't believe nobody's shot fred phelps yet.

They are idiots. Period.
I don't know who they actually serve, but it is not the God of the Bible.
