A vinegar solution is good, but if you live in an area with very hard water, or if your machine is expensive and you want to get the most out of it, you can pick up a specially formulated cleaner at WalMart or the grocery store. Look for it in either the coffee or the coffee maker aisle. They are only a couple of bucks, but are well worth it.

Easiest and cheapest is to just run distilled white vinegar through a cycle instead of water (obviously, you're not going to add coffee beans or drink it!). Though it will smell a bit while you do it, it should clean all of the lime scale and coffee oils off the parts and won't hurt the machine at all. Then run water through one cycle before making the next coffee batch.

white distilled vinegar 5% is the cheapest but needs to be dissolved with enough water like Clorox ( it says it often on the bottle)...
