I'm not from Brooklyn, but I recently moved there, & last night my roommate in a shared apartment charged @ me with 2 knives & the police didn't want to handle the situation. My body could be in the coroner's office right now. Why is it that some police officers don't care about the safety of others when their job is to protect & to serve?

This is a domestic dispute. Unfortunately, many police departments don't want their officers making an arrest in domestic disputes unless the assault takes place in their presence. Most victims in domestic disputes either drop the charges or refuse to testify. It's not just Brooklyn.

I'm not a police officer though I know many....

Cops have to hear both sides of the story before they can make a determination. Since you weren't stabbed or hurt (physically), the alleged person that came up at you with the knives might have gotten off with a warning (especially if the person had no "prior incidents"). Now, had you have been stabbed then the person that chased you would have been charged with a crime. As long as the cops took down a report during the altercation, and you weren't hurt, there really isn't much else they can do.

As much as it stinks, even alleged perpetrators have rights and are protected by the laws.

And regarding the original question, not everyone from Brooklyn are ready to kill. Though certain parts of it I stay away from (Brownsville, East New York, Bushwick)
