When I first fall asleep, I am in a stage where I consciously know that I'm sleeping, and I try to wake myself up. I am dreaming during this stage (so reality is a bit mixed), but I can always willingly jerk myself out of sleep after a short period of time. Can anyone kind of explain that, or more about sleep?

It is like your mind is not at rest. I experiance this quite often, sometimes I am afraid to go to sleep because of the unknown. It is just freaky, I hear my self snore or gasp for air. I am sure you have experianced this and like everyone else that is going to answer this question, I can gaurantee they have all one time or another experianced some type of sleep disorder such as myself and more then likely you. I had suffered from insomnia in the past. I truly believe that our bodies have gone into a form of sleep but our minds are wide awake. Try to destress yourself before you go to bed at night, clear your head of thoughts. Sometimes watching t.v. can cause further stress believe it or not. It is best to go for a walk, or just plain relax, take a hot bath. Good luck I understand what you are experiancing, almost on a daily basis I go through the same thing.

just different levels of sleep--they test and do research for years on patients with what they call REM-rapid eye movement --and can dtermine the different levels of sleep. In the short period of time before u wake have u noticed u can remember ur dreams better and more clearly. That's because u are coming out of the deeper sleep to a lighter phase of sleep.

I wish I could do that =P But it seems to me that you probably aren't fully asleep if you "know" you're asleep. Although it can make for some fun dreams if you know how to do it, it probably isn't the best thing if it happens every night.

I can't explain it, but I do the same thing. It feels like I am "in between" I even manipulate my dreams when I discover I am dreaming. : ) Try to tell yourself you know you are going to dream and somehow your mind remembers it and you can have a blast!
