Amen to that! I have been in many close calls with people who chose not to use their signals. Just the other day I sat and watched two people sit through the entire green light waiting for the other to go straight so they could each turn, but they didn't get a chance to because they didn't know the other was turning. It was kind of comical. Cops need to start ticketing for that, instead of no seatbelts. No signals cause accidents, not seatbelts.

There are many reasons that car manufaturers still have turn signals on vehicles. One reason is that they are required by law and you can get a ticket for not using them. Another reason is they prevent accidents and let people know which way you are going so other people can get around them. Turn signals are for safety and yes a lot of people don't use them but the reality of it is the people who are smart enough to use them prevent a lot of accidents and save several lives. That is why car manufacturers still have them to give people like you the benefit of the doubt.

It's not just California. Florida is really bad and it's not just older drivers. What's really ridiculous is when someone hits the turn signal AFTER they've started making the turn. The one I saw yesterday takes the prize though. This driver turned on his right turn signal and proceeded to make a left turn.

Now, now.
There, there.
There ARE people (even here, in California -- northern California at least) who still use their turn signals.
I've seen them.
Honest.
Not as often as one would wish, but still.
You've just had a bad day.
Fix yourself something soothing to drink and lose yourself in some nice mind candy.
You'll feel better tomorrow.
(As someone who walks, I wish drivers would realize I, too, need to know their intentions, so I do know what you mean about the lack of signalage.)
I have the feeling you had one or more near-misses on your way home tonight.

Oh, come on! Don't you know how hard it is to use your turn signal?
I mean, first - you have to decide that you're going to turn. Then, on top of that, you have to decide if you're going to turn left or right ... all before you get to the turn! Gees!
Then ... you have to move your hand - and let's face it - sometimes your whole arm - and hit that tricky little switch. Then, after you turn ... sometimes you have to hit it again just to turn it off. Now do that about, say, 5 times in a trip somewhere.
No wonder people choose to cause accidents instead of use their turn signal.
Just kidding - I agree with you.

The law in most states requires the turn signals. (all states that I know of require them, but I don't know all the state laws)
Most states have laws requiring you to use your signals and failure to use them resulting in an accident means you are at fault even if you would have had the right of way if you had used the signals.
At times everyone on the freeway is driving in excess of the speed limit... that doesn't mean that we should abolish the speed limit... it means that we need the cops to stop more speeders.

Another rhetorical....
Car manufacturers are required to make them. They cannot sell a vehicle without being approved by S.A.E. California drivers might not use them, but that's why insurance there is soooo high, and accident deaths/rates are sky-rocketing.

An amber turn sign stands out far extra useful then a flashign crimson easy, verify it out next time you're employing, it shoudl sign in extra useful, i think of we only be attentive to to associate amber with rutning indicators, and as quickly as we see crimson, it takes that extra 2d to choose in the event that they are combating of turning.

Fail to use them in Missouri and see how quick Smoky hands you a summons. Those turn signals are there to prevent accidents.

I used to use mine - but then I moved to CA and forgot I had them!
After driving in So Cal for years on the freeways you learn to sense when a car is about to change lanes, thus eliminating the need for turn signals.
