It's swollen to the point where you can't see his ankles.
The doctors say that there is nothing they can see but horrible circulation.
Any suggestions?

Massage, exercise, proper diet, vitamins...Stand only for short periods, rest/sleep with legs elevated...and hopefully he's not taking any medication that is problematic for his circulation.

There is something called Ted Hose which are like a sock which help with circulation in the legs when the veins become week. You should ask the doctor about getting some of those for him. It honestly suprises me that they didn't suggest those in the first place if he has bad circulation.

This is due to poor circulation caused by aging veins that impede blood return to the heart. Sometimes you can see these tortuous veins more prominently on your legs that can appear to be more full of blood when actually the blood is not moving at all.

It’s important to keep active and to keep the swelling down. This is best done by keeping your feet elevated when stationary and wearing support stockings when active. Diuretics are not helpful and may cause dehydration if used to treat this problem.

Maybe he should do foot excercises or start walking more. The only way to increase circulation is to get the blood flowing through your veins. The best way to do that is to start using the area that you want blood flow. For instance, if your hands are freezing cold from being in the snow, you should warm them (increase the blood flow) by moving them around. I'm no expert but I hope this helps. *smiles*

you should try bathing your dads feet in warm water. the warm water will open up the capillaries in the feet and will increase blood flow. have him do simple rotatinig exercises for his feet and ankles which will keep the blood flowing. good circulation is very important because when there is little blood delivered to the body tissue there is less oxygen!

Range of motion exercises, but if they are so swollen, has the doctor put him on a water pill or anything. Some of the people I work with, their feat, ankles, and calves swell and their doctor put them on Lasix
