I'm also wondering if this bike is okay if I wanted to go down a dirt trail in some woods or something every once in a while. I dont need a bike that'll last a long time- i just need it to be there for me for 21/2 years max. Is this bike good for that?

to see the bike i'm talking about go to this website-

Huffy's like that aren't made to last for two years. If you are going to bike daily to school, even if it's only a mile, it will really cause wear and tear on the bike. I would give it four months max with daily use. Any bike can go down packed dirt trails, but this one probably won't be good for any kind of jumping or rocks.

Advice: Don't got to a Dick's, Wal Mart, chain store to buy your bike. You will get inferior quality, and the sales people rarely know what they are talking about. Plus, if anything breaks on it, it's a pain to get them to repair/replace anything on the bike!

Go to a local bike store. Tell them what you want to do and what kind of price you are willing to pay. They will size you and put you on an appropriate bike. Plus, if anything ever happens with the bike, they'll usually be able to fix it with no problem.

Awesome idea! It's good to see kids taking healthier means for transportation, good for you!
I bike roughly between 4-7 miles daily. I got a cheapo depo from the evil wal*mart. I've had it since last May and have only had to do minimum maintainence, such as replacing the de railer which was relatively cheap for a Shamanou (20$) and the wheel bearings.
So basically, a inexpensive bike should suffice. With it being a mountain bike it's also fit for dirt trails and such. Hope you wear a helmet, you only get one noggin after all, lol.

Happy Biking!

I think it would work fine to go to school. The frame and wheels are steel so they are heavy, but kinda durable. There is no front shock, so it will be a very bumpy off-road ride. But, I remember riding my first mountain bike quite a bit in the woods with no front shock and it did just fine.

For $69, if it breaks, buy a new one. That would be the cost of any repair beyond basic stuff, especially if you have to buy more than one part.

I dunno, I always tried to stay away from cheap bikes. I'm not too crazy about huffy. I think if you could look for a Trek or even a Diamondback is better than a huffy. Guess what you do with a Huffy... you huff and puff. The things weigh a lot and fall a part fast. I say go to freecycle (www.freecycle.org) and join the message board for your area. I bet you could find a decent bike for free. Even if it's a huffy, it won't cost you a thing, and you can save your money till you get something more decent.
