I have an adorable 2yr old male tabby , which I love immensely, my problem is that I work all day and at night I spend as much time as I can and always feel guilty if I have other things to do. I was thinking that maybe I should get another cat for him to play with during the day , because at night I cannot sleep he wants my attention all night long . Truly exhausted !

I have 11 cats from 3 1/2 years to nearly 11. I have also introduced an abused 1 year old male with a really bad attitude into my family. Most have been introduced as kittens to the older cats in my the house. The best thing to do is to bring in the kitten and put it into a small cage or carrier with a little food and water. Let the older cat come up to the kitten and let them smell each other. Before playing with the kitten, make a big deal over the older cat by petting and playing with him first. This helps to allay any jealousy because he will feel that he is not being replaced and gives the older cat time to become acquainted with the kitten. Play with the kitten only after you have made over the older one. Do this for a couple of weeks and then gradually bring the kitten out. They should be used to each other by then. Is your male cat neutered? You should do this. I have found that toms will kill a kitten to bring the Queen into estrus again. Being neutered, he should not be a problem. Set out a separate kitty litter pan with fresh litter just for the kitten and set the baby in it about 20 minutes after it has eaten. It might help to put the kitten's litterpan in a different room, but the older cat may go into it.--Just clean it out. It doesn't take long to litter break a kitten. Good luck and have fun with your new baby. They might get along better than you think.

Definately introduce another cat. They actually seem to do better in pairs or more. I have 6 cats, and they get into far less mischief than single cats, as they have each other to entertain.
An adult male will not KILL a kitten, as was earlier mentioned. (our oldest male was actually the 'protector' of the babies as they came into our house and immediately took over bathing and cuddling them)
As your 2yr old is already the head-honcho, he will probably assert his authority on any newcomer, kitten or not. And there will probably be some hissing and spitting, and the occasional rumble/tumble for a few weeks until they establish their roles. But once they hash it out, they'll be fine. They will eventually forget their differences and keep each other in good company.
That doesn't guarantee you a good night's sleep, though. We have several middle of the night romps through our house several times a week. hehe

I have the same problem. Another cat may or may not work. The last cat that entered this house had to quickly leave (luckily it was my sis's cat and she could take him back!) because he did not want any other cat in "his" house. Get your cat some interactive toys--mine loves his panic mouse and radio-controlled mouse so that you can get some down-time without feeling guilty. I have to toss mine out of the bedroom at night, he paws my face to wake me up! Of course, he's destroyed my doorframe with the scratching..... of course lately it's been nicer out and I have the door opened--he's entertaining himself right now with "free cat TV" ;-)

I have a question for you first is he fixed? If so get a FEMALE cat, because he might fight a Male. If he is NOT fixed either get him fixed or get a fixed Female. He may fight with a female cat also but it is less likely than the chances of him fighting with a Male.

Mimi,
Don't know how long you've had this male tabby.
Thoughts are:
Your cat is BORED.
Getting him a "play-mate",at this stage in his life,..is really "dicey",if,
you know what I mean.
He'll kill a kitten & fight with an adult.
As I see it,your only option is to find,SOME distractions for him.in the
way of toys to play with during the day...and ...during the nite.
Toss his butt out of the bedroom @ nite and close the door.
Cats are hard-headed but they can be TRAINED.
Lots of luck.

Yes, get another. They will chase each other all day while you are away and then sleep on schedule.
