Hi.

Prozac has seemed to kind of limit my appetite. I feel fuller quicker. I like this, and I am weight conscious, and I had gained weight using Zoloft.

I want to drop weight.
I do know what SSRIs are and how they workl and all, so I don`t need an explanaition. I also know about Topomax and SNRI's and so on.

All I want to know is experiences with this. As I said, my appetite is limited, its been 4 weeks, and my dose is officially 60mgs.

Any opinions?

I had the same experience with Prozac - it limited my appetite, and I tried a lot of different SSRI's before settling in on one that didn't have any side effects (not Prozac).

I also take Remeron and that increases my appetite.

So, if you can live with the side effects of Prozac - stick to it, it does seem to decease the appetite (in some people - anyway).

What is the most important information I should know about fluoxetine?

You should not use fluoxetine if you also take pimozide or thioridazine, or if you are being treated with methylene blue injection.
Do not use fluoxetine if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine. You must wait at least 14 days after stopping an MAO inhibitor before you can take fluoxetine. You must wait 5 weeks after stopping fluoxetine before you can take thioridazine or an MAOI.
Some young people have thoughts about suicide when first taking an antidepressant. Your doctor will need to check your progress at regular visits while you are using fluoxetine. Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms.
Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
If you also take olanzapine (Zyprexa), read the Zyprexa medication guide and all patient warnings and instructions provided with that medication.

I too lost weight on Prozac due to lack of appetite. The only trouble I had was with my sleep, so I took trazodone as well (years before anything else was widely available). If this is an effect that you desire and the Prozac is helping your mental state as well, then stick with it. Just be sure to get good nutrition in the food you are eating. It's always good to hear about people who are happy with their meds.
