As a hard working professional tax payer I get really upset when I see people taking advatage of our money.
Some people deserve welfare, which alows them to provide for thier family but for the most part people like Jackson H, don't work or work P/T at a fast food joint so that they can recieve free food , housing and income.
The only thing thing that makes me feel better is that while they get this "free ride" , I will do nothing but improve my self in work, personal life and financial matters and they will always be at the bottom feeders eating up every one's money.

I tend to agree. While there are many people who need the temporary help that welfare provides, there are many more who are playing the system. They have their multiple babies with multiple partners and hook themselves up to all the freebies that that will entail. I feel sorry for the children who have to live in the "system". It's a sad life.

It's especially sad and equally infuriating when you see see them fumbling with their cellphones and ipods as they reach for their food stamps.

People who misuse the system (and it's funds) in this way are stealing from those who are truly in need of help.

I agree but with a few more points and exceptions.
An able bodied single person (no children) who works only part-time on a regular basis, or who is caught even assocating with regular drug users, or who takes any illigal drugs himself - should be sent to jail and lose all chances of public housing for the future. This would help keep the standards higher and the corruption lower. It is abuse of the system and
therefore a form of theft.
Any men impreganating women out of wedock should be not only be forced to provide for that child and the mother but should also be severely penalized. (I am talking about the sleaze bags of society here not men who are in stable relationships.) Same goes for the women who are continually having children out of wedlock with no idea who the father is, etc. Nobody should be expected to pay for someone who refuses to learn from her mistakes. It would also raise the standards in her community.

I think we all agree that the disabled must be 'well' suported - not with food stamps and disgraceful housing - but with dignity. We cannot forget that many disdvantaged people have spend years paying taxes too, and it is a public right in a well-run society. We would all need that that right if we found ourselves in such terrible circumstances.

Mothers/fathers who are abandonned should have the right to be home with their children instead of having a 'government subsidised' daycare raising them. They should be recognized as 'contributers' to society - not baggage. These families need proper support both financially and emotionally, not discrimination. Self-sacrificing stay at home single parents, widows, widowers etc should be highly respected for doing the WORK/JOB of parenting 'alone,' and not be made the underdog. Some single parents work outside the home, and they fought for that CHOICE, but it should still be a parenting 'choice.' Many single mothers/fathers have very little to offer their emotionally needy kids at the end of the day, so those children in effect are orphans, and that is digressive. Good involved parenting drastically reduces crime. Crime pulls on the public purse strings, and we should not have to live in fear.

If we 'ourselves' make personal choices about phones, clothing, food, then why would be want anything less our neighbours? Are we superiour beings - at least until 'we' need this service? It is certainly none of our business to look into somebody else's purse. That is not acting with morality or even allowing another human dignity - and those treated as lesser citizens will find it much more difficult to strive to be upstanding citizens.

For all the rest of us who need the system - it should be temporary as in a few 'months' not 'years' - and there is need of 'immediate' and adequate assistance to get us independent fast. Nobody should abuse such a safety net.
