Natural white tea has a very delicate flavour, a bit like green tea without the bitter edge, or mild darjeeling. The producers don't think this will be to the taste of most Western consumers, so they add all sorts of junk to it.

If you can get white tea without these things, personally I think it's much nicer and it can stand on its own! But it is a subtle flavour and it won't be to everyone's taste.
