Hi all i'm 5'8 1/2.
Everyone comments on my height by saying stuff like.
"wow you're a big girl"
which i hate because i weigh only 127 pounds, i know they weren't referring to weight bt what girl wants to hear that?
also
"aren't you a little too tall for a girl"?
or you play basketball?
Oh girl you can't buy those heels you're way too tall.
Also my favorite nickname
Jolly green Giant.
i know i'm taller than average girls, but am i that freakishly tall that i should get these comments.
I know some are not meant to be mean, but when you hear it almost everyday it gets hurtful.
i mean how do the girls who are evn taller than me handle it?
it's made me feel so akward all the time, i have a pretty face great smile and i'm thin.
I just feel so ugly when i hear this crap.
Any advice i would love thankyou!

Wow all the feedback has been great.
All you have made me feel so much better.
Today i'm going to buy myself the heels my friend told me not to get!
I get told i look like naomi watts the blonde girl from the movie the ring and she is an inch shorter than me and definetly not a freak.
i don't feel that insecure anymore after reading what you guys wrote, it's going to be hard to pick a best answer as i wish i can give all you guys it.
Thank you sooo much :-)

your not too tall , you look extra tall because you are thin.
at 127lbs, for your height, you are almost too thin according to statistics. freakishly tall would be like 6'
i am 5'8" but 142lbs still getting the compliments but not for my height:) i love being tall , i wish i was like 1-2" taller
it would make my legs look even better!
believe it or not, somedays i even feel short
when they call u JGG just get real close and stand up straight and laugh and say shut or I'll stomp you!
tallness is intimidating and tall people get more respect :

you are tall, its not going to change, work with it and you can love it!
maybe a read of the book Too Tall Tina by Donna Marie Pitino can boost your self esteem. it is about a third grader who is the tallest in her class but sometimes the lessons learned as a child can last a lifetime

Hey, give yourself a hug! I am 1/2 inch shorter than you and have been since I was 15. I know this sounds simplistic but find a way to love yourself. It may take some time. Find what works for you. Fix your hair the way you like, cool clothes, or what ever you like. And girlfriend, when you can wear heels and long thin-legged pants - your legs will look forever long and LOTS of women would LOVE to have that.
I also went to high school with a 6"0" friend and she just handled it great. So I really think finding your best friend inside yourself is the best advise.
Your height will never be a disadvantage in adult life.

OMG, 5'8" oh and 1/2 is NOT TALL the average fashion model has to be 5'9" and that is on the short side.
I my self am 5'8" and I may be tall to some girls but I am not and you are not too tall.
I have been this height since the age of 13 and yes while alot of my bf were boob height they did eventually get taller.
Also, I were high heels all the time 3 inch mostly. makes my legs look long and very very sexy.
we have lots to be proud of too. I was in a wedding for my friend and all my friends had to get 1 to 2" cut off the length of their dress, mine fit perfect no alterations. Aren't we lucky to not have to spend extra money for the perfect fit.

Oh my word! Don't listen to these haters. Please. People have no clue and no tact at all, I swear!
I have a question for you, though. If someone was to answer, "Yeah, you're too tall for a girl," what could you do? Chop your legs just above the ankle? Slouch? Have some ridiculous cosmetic surgery removing part of your femur? How ridiculous. Love yourself as you are and make no apologies, especially when it comes to height, because we can't change that. So buy those heels you like, and wear them proudly!

I'm 5'9 1/2, so I get this a lot too. My typical response if it's unfriendly is to tower over them and glare. Works every time. If the response is meant to be friendly, though, just tell them that you like your height because you can see over everyone's head.
No you're not freakishly tall, just a bit taller than average. And that's just fine.

Being tall is an asset. Many people made fun of you because they haven't such admirable height of yours coupled with pretty face and great smile and slim body. Be confident. Don't listen to negative comments and be what you are. You are an advantage to the society. Your feature is far more better than the others. Be cheerful and keep up being you. Goodluck.

I am 46 years old and six feet tall. I used to listen to those comments until I got into my twenties then all the short girls started to put on weight and looked dumpy. Men started really noticing me and I carried myself straight and always looked very regal. Clothes look better on me and I always make an impression with my height and the proud way I carry myself. You will be so gratefel for you height in a few years. Good luck from another tall girl. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!

Sweetheart, I hope you are young and will grow into a 'tall' adult who loves herself and her body.
If you allow someone to make you feel ugly - remember most super models are over 6 feet and Uma Thurman and Cameron Diaz were 'picked on' for being tall when they were young. They turned out OK and you will too. Keep your chin up, shoulders back and be proud!!
they only negative is having to find tall or long pants =)
