Semi formal in the outside in the middle of the day... with cold cuts..... I think not.... Look for something little fancier... try cold cook books.
May sure you tell people it's outside with no air.... I have been way over dressed for such "semi formal" weddings and it's terrible to be a guest.
Do chilled soups... and lots of chilled champagne

There are tons of cold salads (pasta salads, green leaf salads) that go well in the summer and would probably be very inexpensive, taco salad is also okay served cold (the meat is usually warm, but all the other ingredients are cold. There are even several soups that are best served cold - talk to your caterer or go buy a good cook book. Good luck and God Bless your marriage.

We're getting married officially in St Thomas in winter, but having our reception here at home in July, and we have opted ofr a clam bake, which should be really fun! We're having it at al place that does this sort of thing, and we're serving clams, steaks, hamburgers, a variety of salads, watermelon...you know, bbq foods! And it will be outdoors with lots of activities for everyone, but very informal, so people can wear their shorts or sandals or whatever they want.
Maybe you could have something a bit less formal, that way a bbq menu would be more appropriate.
The reaction we are getting from friends and family have been just unbelievable! Imagine, actually having a blast at your wedding reception! I can't wait!!!!

I once looked into catering a summer event. They had some great cold items. Grilled asparagus and potabello mushrooms can be delicious served cold. Some fancy pasta salads would be great, too. I would contact some caterers and ask if they have menus for items that would be good in summer. Even if you don't end up having it catered, you'll get some great ideas.

Just spice it up a little w/ different options for sandwichs instead of meat & cheese - collect a few waffle irons from family members & have a panini bar. Several salad options, both vegetable & fruit. Mostly appetizers will probably be your best option - have fun!!

Salads are always great, pasta, potato and garden. How about wraps instead of the usual buns and cold meat, they look and taste great.
Lots of fruit, veggie and cheese platters.
Good Luck!
