Take a piece of paper, fold it in half and try to use it as a toothpick. I mean like a post it note sized paper, cause that would look awkward if it was a whole sheet of paper. Its what my dad always does, and it always works for him.

Paper is the absolute best, just do it slow so you don't cut yourself. Or sometimes if I'm using a straw I'll squish it tight and stick the edge in, works wonders.

Undo a paperclip and use the wire. If you have metal fillings it might be a problem, but it's better than meaty teeth.

Try a crisp banknote and make a slender roll with a pointed end, it works for me.
