I was able to get one credit card a while back soon thereafter filing and kept paying off the balance each month. Recently put on permanent disability so my income is set and very limited so I can only pay X amount each month and now have found myself at the cards limit beacause the interest rate is so astronomical that any payments I make only about $50 goes to prinicipal. I've applied for other cards that offer 0% for a year hoping to be able to transfer my balance so the payments might actually make a dent. Unfortunately every application has come back denied due to (1) insufficient income and (2) filed bankruptcy in 2000. This sucks and I feel totally screwed and stuck, any feasible ideas would be much appreciated.

Contact the credit card company yourself, don't pay someone else to do what you can do on your own. Save that money to pay on your bill.

Speak to them about what you are going through and ask them to help you resolve this by lowering their interest until you have paid the account off.

If they will lower the interest, they will probably put a freeze on using the card until it is paid off.

Be sure to tell them that you enjoy dealing with their company by having their card. That you want to remain in good standing with them, etc, etc.

If you find the consumer rep hard to deal with, either ask to speak with the supervisor (and even their supervisor) or end the call then call back later and speak to someone else.

When you call and you find that your call had ended up overseas, ask to speak to a consumer rep that is located in the U.S. They "should" either transfer you or give you a U.S. phone number to call.
(not saying anything against the overseas reps, just that those are "call centers" and they probably cannot help you)

Get with a reputable Consumer Credit Agency in your area. They will contact the credit card company and have all late fees and interest payments stopped so that when you pay the 50.00 you are actually paying towards your balance.

Here is a website at http://www.bad-credit-credit-card-for-people-with-bad-credit.info/ that has a list of credit card companies that issue credit to people with poor to no credit history. It has secured and unsecured cards to help rebuild credit.

The problem after bk is that you need to find someone to give you credit to help you rebuild your credit.
