Bleach will ALWAYS lighten your hair. It strips out all of the pigment in it bit by bit, until it goes white. The last ligment to go is the one that looks blonde, but if taken off too early it will be orange or red. I would strongly recommend NOT doing this yourself. Hair dressers spend a good few years learning how to combine chemicals to control hair colour, and they charge a small fortune because it is very hard to do. Also, bleach will ALWAYS damage the hair, professional help is really needed to lighten hair that dark, especailly if it has dye in it already.
Hair dressing like flower arranging always looks easy until you try it yourself!

Any Haircolor Can Be Lightened. BUT, How Much Lighter It Will Get Without Severe Damage Is The Question. If Your Hair Is Naturally Black Or Dyed Black You WILL Want Professional Help, This Type Of Hair Is The Most Difficult To Get Light WITHOUT Getting Red/Orange (And Rarely, Green) Tones. Even Professional Colorists Won't Promise To Make You Blonde. But, Sometimes With Several GRADUAL Bleachings You Can Achive A "Blonde" Look Without Too Much Damage. This Will Take A Lot Of Time.(Sometimes Months) And Money.

black is a hard colour to remove from the hair. when you pre-lighten your hair, (bleach it) you go through stages. This is when the underlying pigments come out. black hair needs to go through more of these pigments than lighter hair (red orange gold and yellow). when you have black or very dark brown hair you wont be able to get your hair to a really light blonde without damaging the hair quite a bit. what you can do is either get a colour correction , which is when the hair dresser puts a stripper on the hair to take off the un-natural pigment (dye) and you may be able to get 2-3 shades lighter all over your head but this process may be harsh on the hair and need some conditioning treatments. (i had this done when my hair was black) or you could do some cap highlights and bleach out sections and colour over them in a brown and just keep repeating this proceedure over a few months. it takes some time but it is not as harsh on the hair all at once. in the end you have to realize that you may have some breakage of hair or you may not be as light as you want to be right away. my suggestion to you would be to colour correct AT A SALON with the most gentle stripper that they have, put the lightest colour in that will still cover the imperfections and the do some cap highlights a little bit down the road, with some conditioning treatments. Hopefully this helps you out and i will tell you that i have done the latter of the techniques and my hair is fine, and i had no breakage and it is still pretty soft.

Yes its possible.. I use a frost and glow highlighting kit. You actually have to make a thick paste out of it.. and put it over your hair.. for about 3 hours.. but half way thru the 3 hours you want to apply more frost and glow to help strength the bleech. YES your hair will be very damaged.. so i only recomend you to use it as highlights becuz dying your whole head would could be a disaster. If you dont keep the bleech on long enough then your hair will turn our orange, or a off color blond.

It can make your hair orange - if you process it long enough to try to get it white, hold on to your hair because that is one heck of a processing and can make your hair weak and brittle and maybe fall out. Bleach is designed to remove pigment and then use a toner to add the color you wish. It will lighten it but not in a way that you can control. At the VERY LEAST go to a beauty supply store and talk to them BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. Way too many people screw up their hair and then run crying to a pro to fix it. Be smart and ask the pro first.

NOOOOOOOOO i have black hair, i have lightened it myself using a prelightener but BE WARNED do not do it all over!! i tried a section underneath to see how it came out, i have used the same prelightener twice an some bits are blonde some are a dark strange colour close to blonde but not ginger...it also depends how long u have been dying your hair and how much build up you have, not even a salon can always get black totally out evenly and if u do go to a salon it will cost a fortune, i went to a salon to get rid of black all over and it came out like all different colours which i was pleased with, it looked like a lot of highlights but cost me £100 and 4 hours and i got bored of it quickly!!, best option with black is to do it in stages if you have short hair try growing it out and disguising ur roots with a dark brown, but if ur brave and can face the possibility of being a ginge, go with a prelightener an alsoooooo if you use pre lighteners dont do it one day then again the next day ect or ur hair will snap, do it every two weeks! also use tigi bedhead oatmeal and honey shampoo AND conditioner to strenthen ur hair in the process

ps...u know the saying..once you go black...you never go back

Dont do it!My friend is a hairdresser and told me the same thing....black is the hardest colour to get out of hair so your best bet even though it may take a while is to simply grow it out??Your hair will be like a fresh peice of camvas ready to be painted on again - bleaching will do nothing but cause it to break off - if you cant be bothered to wait that long then I would definately got to a proffesional but I reckon they will tell you the same thing....Good Luck!!

OH DEAR GOD NO!!! i had this problem a month ago, i dyed my hair DARK brown, then bleeched it with 9% (very strong bleech) at home, it turned MEGA ginger, will be worse with black, i waited till the next morning to bleech the ginger bits, but it got worse and worse, in the end, i had to go to professional color experts, and i still have little ginger bits!! DONT DO IT UNLESS YOU WANNA BE A GINGER! Best thing to do, is go to a hairdresser, and get them to put light brown highlights threw all of it to get it lighter, then get it done again a month or two later a bit lighter, so its fairly light brown, then bleech it, and dye again whatever color you want, take a break inbetween each dye, for ATLEAST a month, or else it will fall out, im VERY experience in hair, trust me!! DONT DO ANYTHING YOURSELF!! PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!

You have a color that is so hard to change that it's almost not worth trying, due to a lot of damage on your hair condition.
If you can have a Professional advice or assistance. You must use scalp bleach, you need a color removal or color Stripper.
It's a lot of work, because it's Corrective color.Know what color you are trying to achieve.Blond, light brown,Reds, medium brown, because that determines how long to leave B.on hair.Do not leave it on too long no more than 30 minutes..Good Luck.!x???
