There's so many religions and beliefs floating around in the world. How do we know which one to chose? Which one should we live our lives by? Is there any way of knowing? Is there one that's different than all the others?
What's the meaning of this life?

Religion = a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe

Do not be quick to decide. This is the most important decision that you will ever make. Choosing your religion.

If you want to get to heaven, don't choose any religion! Choose Jesus Christ and Christianity.
Christianity is Not a Religion
Please do not classify Christianity as just another religion? Please do not group Christianity with religions? Please do not confuse Christianity as being just another religion.
Christianity is not a religion per ce. Christianity is a relationship with the one and only true and living God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christians belong to the family of God. Christians are spiritual brothers and sisters to Jesus Christ and spiritual brothers and sisters to one another. They are the family of God. They have a relationship that is like no other on earth. They are all one in Jesus Christ. No so-called religion can claim that.
Christ conveys spiritual life to Christians. No religion can do that.
Christianity was created by God, Jesus Christ, to save mankind from their sins to take them to heaven to be with Him forever.
All religions of the world were created by Satan to keep men in their sins so he can take them to hell to be with him forever.
Christ came to take away sin and give life. Satan came to add sin and death to take away life.
From the beginning of sin, first started by Satan, Satan wanted to be as God. The best he can now do is disguise himself as as many gods as he can to capture the souls of the masses to keep them in their sins and take them to hell when they die physically. Now the best Satan can do is counterfeit gods, religions and faith in them. They appear to be the genuine articles but they are fake. They are
phony. They are bogus.
Christians are followers of Jesus Christ as the one and only one who can forgive, remove and cleanse them from all their sins by the blood He shed for them at Calvary.
Religious people are followers of some false god created by Satan.
Christianity is not a religion. It does not follow a false God.
Christianity is God, Jesus Christ, saving men from their sins.
Religions are men trying to be good enough on their own to save themselves and get to heaven by their own efforts and good works.
People think: "If I just follow my religion, I will get to heaven or a better after-life." Wrong! If you could, and you did follow all the dictates/dogmas of all the religions of the world you would never get to heaven.
Being religious is not the basis of going to heaven or to a better after-life. What religious people don't know is, because of their sins, they can never be good enough to get to heaven on their own efforts and good works. They do not know, understand or accept the fact that, in order to go to heaven, they must have their sins forgiven, removed and cleansed by the blood Jesus Christ shed for them at Calvary. That is the only basis of going to heaven.
Christianity is the truth of God revealed to mankind in God's word, The Holy Bible, the only book that is spiritually alive and can make believers spiritually alive to God. Christianity's holy book, The Holy Bible, is the only truly holy book written by the true and living God. God used some 40 authors to record what He wanted in The Holy Bible, but He is the actual author. God wrote The Holy Bible.
Religion's so-called holy books are not holy but are books written by men inspired by Satan, not God. Unless you want to say Satan is the real author who wrote all those so-called books to confound the minds of the masses to keep them from coming to Jesus Christ, their one and only Savior from sin.
Religions are lies created by Satan, revealed to them through their so-called holy books. Their so-called holy books are spiritually dead books. They cannot convey spiritual life to anyone.
Christianity has a living leader, the one and only true and living God, the Lord Jesus Christ, who after three days, arose from the grave and is now alive at the right hand of the throne of God the Father in heaven. He is there now making intercession to the Father for His children. No religion can claim that.
Religions have leaders who are now dead and in their graves. None are still alive.
Christians have saving faith to believe the truth and go to heaven.
Religious people have fatal faith to believe lies and go to hell.
Christ saves mankind from their sins and helps keep them from becoming worse sinners.
Religion can do nothing about man's sin but, as far as God is concerned, make them more sinful.
Religions breed pride, hatred and extreme ideology.
Some religious zealots are actually demon possessed who hate, rape, commit suicide and murder under the guise of their religion.
Christ brings humility, love and a balanced ideology.
Once again, Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is a personal, life changing relationship with the one and only true and living God, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Is that true of You? Do you have a personal, life changing relationship with the one and only true and living God, the Lord Jesus Christ?
Salvation from sin is a free gift. You cannot work for it. You cannot be good enough to earn it. You must, by faith, receive it as a free gift.
“8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.
You must confess you are a sinner in need of Jesus Christ to forgive, cleanse and remove all you sins from you.
"23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;") Romans 3:23
You must become a child/son/daughter of God by asking Jesus Christ to come into your life for Him to live there forever.
"12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" John 1:12.
If you never have, do this today. This is my prayer for you.

Whichever religion sticks closest to God's holy standards as found in the holy scriptures, is not directed by one man, is not tainted with paganistic practices and traditions, and has people who love each other and their neighbors. That would be the true religion.

A religion where the clergy is not paid and where people don't have to pay a certain dollar amount to be a part of it (tithing).

Choose no religion for religion's sake! Religion is man-made, ans as such, is subject to flaws. You should however choose a "church" based on their beliefs on the Word of God - the Bible. Do they preach and teach from the Bible? Do they practice what they preach? Is it a Spirit-filled church based on the Word of God? Do "you" know the Word of God well enough to discern these things?
All tough questions! But then... it's your spiritual development that's at risk here!

There is only one true religion, but there can be faiths of several kinds. It is therefore more fitting to say, 'This man is of this or that faith"—Jewish, Muhammadan, Christian, Catholic, Lutheran-'than he is of this or that religion.' "
Different faith because the soul is conditioned by different modes of nature, goodness, passion and ignorant. People with different mentality and different material desires and different concept of God, are given different scriptures with different rituals according to time place and circumstances.
True religion teaches causeless love of God. It does not say, "I love God because He supplies me nice objects for my sense gratification." That is not love.
It is not possible to manufacture a religion. A true religion must come from an authorized source, and that source is either God or His representative.

Religion is man's way of trying to reach God.

Relationship is God's way of reaching us through Jesus Christ.

There is only one living God. There is only one God that will seek you for a relationship. He misses you and would like to talk.

Jesus answered, I am the way, the truth and the light. No one comes to the father except through me. John 14:6

I spent five years trying to answer this question. You wont take my word you have to investigate all the world religions. Some are so obvious and absurd in their belief system that you can exclude them quickly. Others you will have to search under the surface to find hidden problems.
By the way I'm Christian

I believe that there is no way to the truth, the truth is.
While there may be many paths to God, all paths lead home. Are you attempting to choose? Connection to spirit brings great joy. Find a religion that fits you and go deep, knowing that in your depth you can share a bond with all people of faith- Christian, Jew, Islam, Pagan....

Your comments reminded me of the same situation a young boy named Joseph Smith was going through around 1820.

from Joseph Smith History 1:9 My mind at times was greatly excited, the cry and tumult were so great and incessant. The Presbyterians were most decided against the Baptists and Methodists, and used all the powers of both reason and sophistry to prove their errors, or, at least, to make the people think they were in error. On the other hand, the Baptists and Methodists in their turn were equally zealous in endeavoring to establish their own tenets and disprove all others.
10 In the midst of this war of words and tumult of opinions, I often said to myself: What is to be done? Who of all these parties are right; or, are they all wrong together? If any one of them be right, which is it, and how shall I know it?
11 While I was laboring under the extreme difficulties caused by the contests of these parties of religionists, I was one day reading the Epistle of James, first chapter and fifth verse, which reads: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
12 Never did any passage of scripture come with more power to the heart of man than this did at this time to mine. It seemed to enter with great force into every feeling of my heart. I reflected on it again and again, knowing that if any person needed wisdom from God, I did; for how to act I did not know, and unless I could get more wisdom than I then had, I would never know; for the teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible.
13 At length I came to the conclusion that I must either remain in darkness and confusion, or else I must do as James directs, that is, ask of God. I at length came to the determination to “ask of God,” concluding that if he gave wisdom to them that lacked wisdom, and would give liberally, and not upbraid, I might venture.

I agree with you that this is an extremely important decision to make...and I believe that you should only trust God to show you which Church to join.

Joseph got his answer from God that he was to join none of the Churches at that time...and later from God through the prophet Joseph Smith...God's true Church was restored to the Earth. I would strongly encourage you to learn more about the Church..."The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints"

may God bless you and give you the truth you seek!
