As depressing as it is, I was raised by a family with a heavy Christian Science background- just about the doctors, though. When I was five, my grandfather was saved twice, before finally turning blue for the third time.
I see forcing life upon people as cruel, as a result of that and many of my secular lessons in life.
Why is it so bad to let sextuplets die rather than have bblood trasnfusions?
What right does the state have to FORCE unnatrual treatment onto beings that will most likely be half-brain-dead or at least emotionally starved by parents who have little left in them after only one or two children, at the end of the day?
Why does our society not just accept that we are NOT god, and no amount of medicine is going to fix that?

I'm very muhc against fertility treatment, also, so taht argument actually does not belittle my position or effectively render it null and void.

A better question is why wasn't that hospital current in new methods to avoid blood transfusions? I wouldn't want to go there as an adult for an injury. Google bloodless treatments and you will see over 150 hospitals that now offer bloodless alternatives to all patients, since only 10% of those refusing blood are witnesses.

I agree that if the likely hood of someone being a halfwit is high it's probably better to let them go
But not for the same reasons, the are to many people in the world as it is if any of my loved ones were in a situation like that I would gladly let them go to make room for someone new
It's not about being god it's about whats best for the world
If we could all stop shouting to each other about what can never be proven, then maybe we could focuse on the real hard questions in life not death

It comes down to a case of finding that line between "playing God" and "using every available method to preserve life."
As an ex-EMT, I'm pretty much dedicated to preserving life. If I see someone have a heart attack in front of me, I'm going to do everything I can to keep them alive and give them a chance to survive - because a heart attack is not, in and of itself, necessarily 100% fatal.
I'm not against letting someone go if their quality of life is going to be horrid - folks in chronic pain, etc. But that is *not* my decision to make - that's why we have things like Living Wills and Do Not Recusitate orders.
Life is a wonderful, wonderful thing, and while death shouldn't be feared, I don't see any reason to let someone die if there's a good chance that they can continue to live a heathy life afterwards.

While I think we should give everyone as much of a chance to live a full and happy life as possible, I also believe that we should let people die if they choose to and that it's okay to let people pass on, especially after long, full lives.
But I do think we should TRY to save people unless they ask that we not.

Those babies are not given the choice!!!!!
They didn't mind playing God taking fertility drugs, knowing full well that it could result in multiple births and the possible consequences. And then when those consequences arise, they don't want to take responsibility for what they made happen!
To say it's ok to let them die because the parents would be exhausted? That is horrendous!
They created life and used it for their own little experiment!
HORRIBLE!!!!
And says a lot about the religion!

I understand where you are coming from......
Acts 15:28,29 state: "For the holy spirit and we ourselves have favored adding no further burden to YOU, except these necessary things, to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication. If YOU carefully keep yourselves from these things, YOU will prosper. Good health to YOU!”
If you had a bad liver, and your doctor told you to abstain from alcohol, but you had it done intreveiniously so you could still get the alcohol you wanted, isn't that still going against the doctors orders???
How much more so should we listen to God Almighty? He is our maker, and knows the very formation of us. I think he knows what is best, and therefore that's what I'll follow.

it's up to man to make breakthroughs in medicine and share them with the world. even people who are 'half-brain dead' still have half a capacity to love.

Our society believes in the sanctity of life and that trumps religion, rightfully so, when to not intervene, usurps the rights of one (a child, unconscious person) incapable of making that decision for him/herself.

Fine. Let your children die, but don't tell me what to do with my children (when I have them) or family. I will NEVER let anybody that I love die without getting them help.

life is precious, those poor babies weren't old enough to make the decision for them selves; but I find it hard to believe that they would not have wanted to live
