No it is not true. Mormons are Christians who follow Jesus (therefore the real name of the church - Church of jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). In addition to the Bible, LDS has some additional books to further explain how to live and worship G-d. (Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ is the best known, Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrine and Covenants are two others) The main difference between LDS and other Christian sects is the belief that prophecy did not end in Biblical times. (aside: Why should it have? have humans improved so much that we no longer need guidance? are humans so good at following G-d's word that none need reminding?)

At one time the church permitted polygamy - so did the Bible, BTW. For myself, I am not sure why polygamy should be considered evil - I'd love to have help keeping house and taking care of children. Who wouldn't? but that's an entirely different story. The answer is that LDS no longer allows polygamy, neither does Judaism (which did not forbid it until the 12th century).

There is a strange strain among many Christians that causes them to call anyone outside their particular sect, "evil" and "unchristian." Mormons do not do that - they will tell you that LDS is the best among the many ways to worship G-d.
Meanwhile, protestants call Catholics evil and unchristian, Catholics call protestants misguided, wrong, and unable to get to Heaven -- and everyone hates Jews (except Mormons...maybe that's why they are evil?)

Mormons (LDS) are not polygamist, but they are some religions that are off shoots that are (FLDS is one). They are no more a cult then any other organized religion. So if you think all religions are a cult then yes, otherwise no. Mormons do have a lot of critics in the Christian groups because many of their beliefs are a little different then theirs. But they are good people. The majority are honest, hard workers and very charitable. They put a lot of effort into helping others. Unlike many religions it requires a commitment to the beliefs that effect they way they live their lives, but of course they would not do this if they did not believe in it. (modest dress, no liquor, no coffee or tea, no tobacco, etc.)

If you really want to know what they believe go to www.mormon.org

I am not mormon, but I know that the LDS do not support polygamy officially and excommunicate those members who are polygamists. Polygamy is often practiced by fundamentalists who have broken off from the main church; they adhere to the "rules" set down by Joseph Smith, the founder, who was a polygamist. I don't know that the mormons are "evil" per se, just weird. But Hey, each unto their own, right?

Mormonism is at worst a misguided group of people who have emerging beliefs that have changed since their inception. That being stated I guess anyone who doesn't believe the way you believe is a cult. At one time they did allow polygamy, however it is not condonned anymore.

Okay, I'm not a Mormon and I don't share their beliefs but this is a misconception. The vast majority of them do not believe in polygamy. This is a small sect of Mormons that believe and practice that. I lived just north of Salt Lake for awhile, which is heavy Mormon country. Most of my neighbors were Mormons. They were pretty normal, wild religious beliefs aside.

Mormons have at the base of their teaching a belief in Polygamy The founders had many wives. So do Muslims, although the Muslim faith allows a limit of four wives and you do have to able to support them. I believe that the Mormon church has since made a statement against Polygamy. The Muslims usually have one wife.

Mormonism originally practiced polygamy, but they discontinued it. As far as their cult status, I'd say yes...they have such traits. They qualify as a theological cult & as a sociological cult. They teach things about God that contradict both Holy Scripture and orthodoxy & they really make it tough on people who want to leave the church to do so.

I wouldn't call them evil, but I think cult may be accurate. I happen to think that the premise of Mormonism is HIGHLY flawed, but all the Mormons I have ever met have been wonderful, sweet people.

I really tired of explaining this to people.

LDS have chapels all over the world, just go there on Sunday and take a look your self and make your own judgement.

As for those bad mouthing LDS, it does not take much common sense to figure out what their intentions are.
