If you have cystic acne (pustules, etc.), you MUST see a doctor to get it under control.
For general acne, I really like an OTC medicine called "Nature's Cure." It's slow-acting, so you'll have to wait about a month to see real results, but it's worked miracles for me, and if you stick with it, you'll only have VERY occasional breakouts. The pills are tasteless, and it comes with a cream that will really dry up oily skin (I can't use it because it's too strong for me). It's also really cheap -- about $10 per month. And you can find it at most pharmacies or drugstores.
My roommate, however, swears by Proactiv, that stuff they sell on TV. I don't know much about it, but it's apparently pretty pricey.
Good luck!

proactive they sell it at all the malls, its the best thing, because if you go to a dermatologist they will give you the same thing, (different name) but if you have insurance go to the doctor and get it for free they will give to you even if you only have a smalll amount of acne.
