Whitetail deer are creatures of habit. They don't care if you build a four lane highway or a four story home in the middle of one of their deer trails. They will go around it if possible but they don't take the long way around unless they feel threatened. Whats even worse is that deer find man made things like roads and tunnels shorten there trips to and from food and bedding areas.
As man encroaches deeper into wildlife habitat, encounters with wild animals become more of a problem.
And the "deer crossing" signs you are interested in are put into place when deer vs. automobile accidents become common in that location. The signs are for your benefit. The deer don't care.

there's more wildlife out there than you know of. many neighborhoods are built over natural habitats ya know, i can still hear the coyotes howling at night and i live in a county with over a million and a half people living here; that's a lot of development. within this county, there are numerous hunting grounds and people provide many reports from them.
there are deer in the area, they're just not so easy to spot during normal "human hours." when you understand the animal's daily routine, you'll understand why you won't see them.

Because the deer don't know they aren't supposed to be there, but sometimes they do graze in those places, so it's best that we all be warned. Right??
