If a stranger establishes eye contact one might normally smile or something. But do you ever feel embarrased and turn away? Why is this? Low confidence??

Probably low self-confidence or nervousness over approaching someone. The best way to overcome it is to practice not turning away. Wave back, make eye contact, say hi. If you're really interested and they seem to be too, try to spark up a conversation. The more you do it, the better you'll get.

i feel uncomfortable.... im an acting student so my confidence really isnt an issue- i just hate eye contact and dont enjoy girls staring at me!

I would say looking away is a sign of lack of confidence. And it is very destructive to attracting the opposite sex. It is almost a sure give away that you are not confident with yourself.

im a gilr im shy of this boy but he looks away if i look at him and i look away too, it means that we are both shy of each other.

i felt embarrassed when a girl blatantly complimented my attributes, and her girlfriend got mad as she was jealous, i left them to it, as im not into females!
